”After the [Holloway] fight, I took some time for myself, to think and stay with my family,” Aldo told Combate. “Two weeks later, I met with my coaches, sat down with everyone. I asked what they thought, if it was time to stop or not. We decided to move forward. The next day I was in the gym.”
”I think I still have much wood to burn, full capacity to go there and fight for the title again,” Aldo said. “I still have four fights left in the contract. I want to do at least three this year. I want to get to the third fighting for the title, be champion again. Then, in the future, I think about retiring or not.”
ON HIS FIGHTING STYLE
"I can't run from it, my style has always been aggressive, I believe I made some mistakes in the past by not chasing it. I want to go back to my roots, I believe that's how I became champ. I'm training kickboxing everyday and I'll start kicking like I used to. You guys will see a much more aggressive Aldo"
ON BRIAN ORTEGA VS HOLLOWAY
"Brian has been growing a lot, he deserves this fight. However, Holloway is a great athlete, he is already used to everything. I don't think there is a favorite, it is a close fight on paper, let's see what happens. They are both great people and I'll be happy to see either of them as the champion. Career-wise, of course I would rather see Brian win, since I've already fought twice with Max - the path to the title would be shorter. I wish them good luck"
ON THE NEW FW BREED
"The division has been getting physically bigger, back in the day I used to think I was the biggest, nowadays I'm actually short for the weightclass, people are way taller. But I have an advantage: my reach is pretty good. I know I can hang in there with anyone, regardless of their size, so I'll leave that to the statistics - inside the Octagon we will chase ways to neutralize that"
