After reading some of the comments talking about Jones size not skill I figure its time to point some things out.

Bonnar:
Height 6 ft 4 in (1.93 m)
Weight 205 lb (93 kg; 14.6 st)
Reach 80.0 in (203 cm)

Jones:
Height 6 ft 4 in (193 cm)
Weight 205 lb (93 kg; 14.6 st)
Reach 84.5 in (215 cm)

We all saw what happened in the Jones vs Bonnar fight. A fight where Jones faced a better striker(at that time) and someone with more experience in the cage. Even Randy Couture said he thought Stephan was going to kill Jones in that fight because Jones striking was so rudimentary.

Gustafsson:
Height 6 ft 5 in (1.96 m)[1]
Weight 205 lb (93 kg; 14.6 st)
Reach 81 in (206 cm)[2]

Using Jones hater logic. Gustafsson being the taller man only got the better of jones because he Gus was "bigger". So basically Alex is not really skilled. Just bigger than Jones which gave him the advantage in their first fight.

Its called a weight class. Not a height class, reach class or any other class, a weight class. None of the fighters are complaining, they are all lining up to face him. I have not seen one of them say Jones won because he was bigger. Why on earth are people like you making excuses for Jones dominance. You behave as if the guy didn't work hard to become a great Mix Martial artist and he could of just walk in there and wipe the floor with everybody. Again, fighters aren't complaining or making excuses. Why are you?

Serious question. If the Jones that fought Brad Bernard or Carlos Eduardo step in the cage with Shogun at UFC128. Who do you think would have won?

Let what go? I see people talking about size and personality more than skill around here.

See what happens is when you give logical rebuttals to the stupidity around here people tend to try and dismiss it.

You spelled Gustafsson correctly but not Bonnar?

I thought this was going to be another thread on Jone's lack of class.

Is this a response to a thread called "Jones has such class" or something?

He's talking about a different form of "class", genius. Try reading sometimes.

No you don't. You see more people talking about Jones size, and although it comes up on here, people don't attribute Jones' success to his size as often you would like to pretend, and generally the people complaining about Jones' personality admit that he's an amazing fighter. Forgive us for not liking him and thinking he's a tool.

Jon is much bigger than the majority of his opponents. Its not debatable. But its also not his problem. Smaller LHWs need to follow machida to MW, or deal with it.

Fucking hell man. Dont go around sarcastically calling people genius if you cant even spot an (admittedly not very funny) obvious joke.

Suggest you go back and edit your post

Jon had been fighting 10 months when he beat Bonnar. 10 months lol.

Gustafsson doesn't have an 81 inch reach. It was 76 inches for his entire career until the UFC tried to hype a reach v reach bout & it suddenly became 81.

Saying Gustafsson did well due to his reach is essentially trashing the skills of Alex. His movement was the difference. He had brilliant lateral movement. Jon was always on his hip when he tried to shoot making it very difficult to take Gus down.

The movement also stifled his low kicking game. He couldn't successfully maintain the distance. His jabs were rendered virtually useless. When you have an 84 inch reach and you regularly miss those long levers take a bit longer to retract. This is why he was countered continually.

Jon found a way to win that fight and it wasn't his reach that did it. It was his will to win and his ring IQ. Gustafsson never should have lost that fight. It was an ambush.

There is a big reason Jon is going straight back to training. There's a reason he's vocally supporting Anderson in the media. He hasn't said as much but he's predicting a Gus win [Versus Rumble]. He needs all the time he can get to improve his movement. Anderson is the perfect training partner for this purpose. If he doesn't fix this hole, Gus will be a tough mountain to climb.

TLDR: Reach isn't why Jon wins. Reach isn't why Alex wins. Skill wins fights.

Jones still has big reach advantage over both.

Right.

Again:

Please answer the question above.

Also again:

Bonnar was way more experienced. Are you saying reach was the only factor in winning that fight?

Is someone saying he wins only because of his reach? If so, reply to their comment or PM them. I don't know if we really need a new topic for every single time a whitebelt (no offense, it's been a lot of whitebelts doing this lately) feels like they have something to say.
