It;s no easy feat moving up to Heavy from the weight class below

Evander Holyfield is the ultimate success story. He did a LOT of weight training to transition up. DOesn't look like Bones has put that kinda time in the gym

Roy Jones went up successfully but had to hand pick an opponent

Oleksandr Usyk is the one everyone thinks will do well, to date he has not proved himself at Heavy, hasn't fought anyone of note

Tomasz Adamek didn't do too well at all when he moved up

So how really will Jones do ?

Comparing boxing to mma with weight class transitions is apples and oranges. Boxing weight classes are only separated by a few pounds. UFC weight classes are at least 10. I know heavyweight in the UFC runs from 206-265, but rarely is a heavyweight lighter than 220lbs.

Jon is way past his prime and hasn’t looked great in years. It’s just that his chin, cardio and pressure are so good that he keeps winning.

Anything can happen in mma and you never know with a guy like Jon, but Imo he will have great wins and get to a title shot. On the flip side I also think he will lose fights and at least one in brutal fashion.

Obviously Jon goes to heavyweight when its arguably the weakest its been for a long time

RJJ did a big mistake going up, his speed was never the same after his hw fight.

It's a little different since weight class don't match up. Jones would've been a heavyweight in boxing his whole career.

Why are we comparing 2 different sports with different weight classes.
Roy Jones started his pro career at 154
Holyfield and Adamek at 175
Usyk probably at 200

Jon Jones at 205, 51 pounds north of Roy Jones

Jones was recently beaten twice at 205 and would lose his belt soon anyway.
If he goes to heavy weight, he can pick easier fights for more money.

I think he's been past it for some time, but greats can rise up, re-enter good form when a challenge comes up.

For those comparisons. Yeah, RJJ is an all-time great, Holyfield sometimes even higher regarded, but they're not the same for their sport as Jones. JJ is widely regarded as the top 1-2 fighter ever. In the same category as Ali in boxing. Or Joe Louis. Or Floyd. Those guys in the OP are further down the ladder.

Insane to compare Jones move to any of those, especially Roy Jones, dude was a middleweight. Jon is 6"4 225 - 235 and TBH the current heavyweights aren't that big, Stipe DC pretty small. Usyk on the otherhand is 6"3 210 - 225, and his opposition are 6"6 240 of lean muscle AJ, 6"7 212 - 230 Wilder, and 6"9 250 - 265 Fury. All three tower over Francis, Jones has a much easier transition going to Heavyweight than Usyk.

Jones is not even half the fighter Roy Jones was. Even with the steroids.

Holyfield got a LOT of help from Evan Fields
;)

Holyfield was on steroids if were being honest. It's rare you see a guy put on that much muscle, with no fat in a sport like boxing or mma, without even losing any endurance
