Actually asking for a raise usually means you're feeling undervalued, and can make more with another company. Haven't you ever asked for a raise? At that point, if the company thinks you're worth more they'll pay you more, if they don't you quit and try to find another company that will pay you what you think you're worth. Sometimes you find one, sometimes you don't.
