Jones absolutely blew our minds

He executed his plan very well. Looked very confident standing in front of Cyril, took him down when the opportunity came and worked each step to get Cyril in the position he needed to be in which gave Cyril almost zero chance of getting out. That top position against the cage is a trap for multiple danger zones. If Cyril kept his neck straight, Jones would smother him with punches. While he’s punching Cyril in the face repeatedly, he will eventually look down and leave his neck open.

IDT anyone predicted a first round finish for Jon Jones.

Most if not all people thought that the first round would be to see how Jones/Gane adjust to one another. But a first round massacre in which Jones dominated the (minimal) striking exchanges and then easily took down and subbed Gane was definitely crazy.

Honestly, he looked sluggish. The handspeed seems to have remained and he seems strong, though.
It didn't blow my mind, it was more of a disapointment on how quick it was, even if I expected a sub/gnp win.

Was Jones impressive or Cyril unimpressive?
Both. That was really, really high-level wrestling that Jones put together that we haven't seen from him in many years, if ever.

Gane is elite, but if some is either purely physical enough (Francis) or high level enough of a wrestler (Jones), Gane doesn't have the chops on the ground to hold them off.

It's all about matchups. Think of Gane as HW Condit. Condit could be a world-beater on his feet, and had a good submission and striking game off his back, but against an elite wrestler who could wrestle-fuck him, he had no answers. Mousasi, too, to a lesser degree.

Gane has 0 TDD. 0 wrestlers in prep for Jones.

Jones soured his own W by pointing out Francis was the best wrestler he fought. <Lmaoo>

HW division has almost no elite fighters who are wrestlers, especially since Cormier retired. Jones didn't sour anything. He's pointing out that he's a real MMA wrestler in a division that has no one who can deal with high-level MMA wrestling.

He fought a guy with 0 TDD and no wrestler opposition.

gotta admit he surprised the fuck out of me, i thought gane was going to handle him no problem. if he can handle the extra weight at HW that's a pretty scary thought. although let's see how he looks against someone like blaydes first, someone who can actually wrestle.

You still haven't actually refuted anything I've written.

There are not any decent wrestlers except, maybe, Blaydes, and the better strikers tend to take him apart. True statement, on your part, but one that doesn't tell us much of anything.

Oh it does. Hand picked gift opponents. If anybody else popped that much it be career ban. McGregor had a career threatening injury and the net blew up because he's not in testing.

While I think it was a pretty impressive win, the first thought that popped in my mind while watching is how slow and heavy jones looked on his feet.
On the other hand, he looked surprisingly big and long compared to Gane. He definitely doesn't lack the size to perform at HW, but I don't think he can do flashy shit on the feeth anymore.

I read maybe 100 threads about that performance and replied most of them, this fight satisifed me so much as a mma fan maybe the 1st time a fight that much impressed me for nearly 20 years

Thank you goat
Gane's terrible performance kinda blew my mind. Jones did not.
