Jon Jones vs Reyes — biggest misconception

Reyes was on Usman's podcast 2 days ago and he said "That fight against JJ is still... I know I won the first 3 round... He landed 2 punches on me in those first 3 rounds. Only 2 punches is what he did. I shut him down completely. And in the last rounds, he got takedown and I was up in one second, so... I dominated that fight. And we will be together trapped in the same zone forever. We will be forever close in the same space. JJ is a genius fighter, he wants you to play his game. So I studied him to obsession to know his patterns. And one thing JJ isn't very good with is space. He has a very long reach but he can't use it that well. I mean, he has the longest reach, but how many KO does he have? What is his striking accuracy? He isn't that good in range management. And I proved that. Many people glaze him but he could be a much better fighter. I know how to use range better, I am smarter"


I mean.... Reyes has nightmares about the fact he lost lmao ... The first 30 minutes he only spoke about JJ. He talked about JJ retiring, saying it was annoying that JJ wouldn't tell ppl what was up. And he said only about JJ for 30 minutes.... Reyes is still competing, right? Because every podcast he is in, he speaks about JJ, how JJ isn't that good, etc... He said "JJ went to HW, because he didn't want to rematch me. Guys there at HW, even the ones there now, they are easier for JJ than I was back then, than LHWs are. HWs are more less tested, they go for that one shot but that doesn't work vs guys who are big and elite. That's why he went to HW" ... He may be right that HW is easier, I agree... But Reyes is obsessed lol. JJ wasn't scared to rematch him, he only said he'd like more money. He was getting paid shitty for the champion that he was, so he won once vs Reyes. Ok want JJ to win again? Pay him more as he has given his brain life for the UFC a lot already... Easy... JJ would beat him again, but this time it'd be like Jiri did...

Wrong person?? Reyes didn't win... JJ did. That's the right person. JJ won officially. And fair and square. All within the rules. Did you read the rules? If so, bring an argument. Based off the fight and the rules. Not fan scoring.

The vast majority of educated people who watched the fight think that Reyes deserved the decision.

You are an admitted Jones fanboy. Your opinion is worthless. No offense.

Which educated people? Btw, I'm asking for arguments, not to drop names. Again, what makes you think Reyes won? I addressed that in the OP. Are you going to attempt to counter that or keep dodging the point? Show me where it's said that number of strikes defines who wins a round. I will wait.

Use the rules... Not fan scoring. Educated ppl are ppl like you who doesn't even remember the fight and tags along with whatever you are fed. Bring a point, not "ohh fans said that, the media!"" ... Bring a point.

Reyes clearly outworked and outstruck Jones in each of the first three rounds.

People let their hate and dislike for Jones blind them to his in cage work.

I’m not a huge fan of Jones and despise him as a person. But I can say with certainty that when the judges were going to the scorecards I had Jones winning pretty clearly.

Not really. Rounds 2 and 3 were swing rounds. Round 1 was clear Reyes. Rounds 4 and 5 were clear JJ.

Between that we have : 2 swing rounds, 2 clear rounds for JJ and 1 for Reyes. Some ppl see round 2 for JJ and 3 for Reyes, other see R3 for JJ and R2 for Reyes (like me)...

... However, when we have 2 swing rounds, he best is to give one for each fighter. Giving both can be justifiable but it stretches things a little. For example, Alex Pereira vs Ankalaev... The UFC stats has round 3 as Alex Pereira outstriking Ankalaev by 22 - 15 ... 7 difference. Round 5, they have Ankalaev 16 - 14 ...

Rounds 3 and 5 were swing rounds. Round 3 Alex outstriked, but Ankalaev had more impact and dictated the pace more often (same scenario as round JJ vs Reyes)... And in round 5 Ankalaev had more strikes but Alex had the more impactful moments, like the head kick, the jabs to the body, two punches to the head that buckled Ankalaev's legs, while Alex (much like Ank in round 3) remained mostly unaffected by Ankalaev's strikes...

So we had... Rounds 2 and 4 clear for Ankalaev... Round 1 clear for Alex Pereira... Rounds 3 and 5 as swing rounds. The best choice is between 2 swing rounds, to give 1 round to each... So 48-47 for Ankalaev, much like here...

When Jones and Reyes fought the new scoring criteria had been adopted by almost every state commission for about a year. The only state that hadn’t adopted the new scoring criteria was Texas (where Jones and Reyes took place)

The major change of this scoring criteria was that damage was being scored above all whereas the old garbage criteria would over value cage control and forward movement.. etc which was bias against counter/back foot fighters so they abolished it.

When we all watched the fight we scored based on the new criteria to but the judges were using the old criteria that favors forward movement etc.

Under the new criteria Reyes wins that fight 3-2 clearly.

The scoring criteria was the one I posted in the thread for God's sake... That's the NEW scoring criteria. It says "effective striking/grappling" comes first. Effective means causing impact, visually, slowing the opponent, making them sidestep, snapping their heads, making them show signs of pain. You confused that with sheer number of strikes. It doesn't say "damage" (because what is damage? You look at someone's face to see it? Lol), it says effective / impact striking and grappling.

If someone lands 8 jabs in a round but they don't cause any change in pace, or pain, or posture, or momentum shift vs another someone who lands a single hook and the opponent fall, being knocked down and rocked at the last second of the round, the single hook wins the round... The 8 jabs had no visible effect, were to the body... The hook dropped the opponnent and, although it was one single hook vs 8 jabs, it had way more effect visually vs 8 jabs that caused nothing visual...

An example so you understand what effective/impact striking means...
