Media Jon Jones' teammate is highly impressed by his "unbelievable" speed and size in training

jon very well might be the greatest mixed martial artist of all time

you can't possibly know that because he had a height/reach advantage over all of his opponents, and popped for PEDs multiple times which artificially enhanced his performances beyond what they would be if he were natty. He never had to strategize against someone who had physical advantages over him, if you're always punching down its easy to look like the better fighter.

Sheymon Moraes, former UFC and current PFL fighter, spoke to the Connect Cast podcast about Jon Jones' future and his time training at Fight Ready, Arizona (Cejudo's gym)

Translation:

Podcast Host:

- We still have to see how Jon Jones will perform after all these years bulking up ... look, he is 3 years away from the sport, 20 lbs heavier, and not in his prime anymore. We are talking about another Jon Jones, it is not the same Jones who partied up all weekend and then beat up Gustafsson, it's another Jon Jones, brother"

Sheymon Moraes:

- Yeah, but he is built different. He is training regularly in our camp.

Podcast Host:

- Oh, is he in shape?

Sheymon Moraes:

- Yes, definitely. He is very skilled, he will just duck under, pick your ankle, pull ... and make it look easy. You look at it and think to yourself: "Holy shit, how is it possible for someone to be that size, yet be so quick?"

Podcast Host:

- If you are watching him up close then I'll take your word for it

Sheymon Moraes:

- Yes, and now he is chilled out, Jones is very humble .. he is always in the gym training, just doing his thing.

Gane is in big trouble. Jon Jones' wrestling seems to be on point.

Lol Sheymon is a small 145er!

True, but you can inject recovery, which allows you to spend more time training and therefore build your skillset quicker and more thoroughly than your clean counterparts.
crazy, eh? at 23yo he embarrased Shogun that had been fighting for... how many years already? Steroids allowed him to have a better skillset than Shogun by way of training more frequently huh?

but I thought that Jones would always be a steroid cheat, and that steroids gave him every single skill he used to win fights, so by that logic he should still be excellent by way of steroids, right?
Has nothing to do with my comment about his “teammate’s quotes”

So he should cut his arms you prick what about his inside fighting we all know short fighters have advantage there. But Jones is menace there Gus was bigger than Jones DC weight like 12 and more lbs on fight night was HW

And then, this dude:

Claims that Jones couldn't drag him to the ground at all, when they were sparring back before second DC fight.

Training is training, and you will hear plenty of different stories about it.
Who knows?

Could have been that this guy was round 12 for Jon sparring fresh dudes every few minutes. Or Jon was focusing on technique and this dude was trying to beat the champ, at practice, on a Tuesday.

I always take any sparring stories with a HUGE grain of salt.

Always heard that Jones is just a different level than everyone else in the gym. This isn’t surprising. Even though Sherdog will be surprised by how dominant he looks in his HW debut.

Rashad and Van Arsdale told me just how good Jones was at Jackson’s prior to them coming to South FL. It isn’t just gym buddies talking each other up (especially since they both despised him at that time), in Jones case he is one of the most skilled fighters to ever grace a cage. Not saying he isn’t without his faults (as all greats are)but his skills over his career speak for themselves just as his legacy will to the masses.

You can’t inject skill.
Schaub has said for years he tooled with heavyweights whilst fighting at 205, apparently he used to tool Overeem, Arlovski and the like in training. Can't wait to lump on Jones nearer the fight.

Height isn't an advantage.

you mean like beating up overeem and arlovski in training being smaller by 30 pounds.
if he made weight, what is the advantage? reach?
are you implying jon jones is a reach bully??
show me a fighter that fought the level of competition that jones did starting out.
jon was fed to the wolves at a young age, and turns out he was the alpha

Overeem came to the Blackzilians (when it was still at imperial athletics right before Jaco) at the end of Rashad’s camp for the Jones fight. I remember how high he spoke of Jones ability and skill. It should also be noted that Overeem especially at that time was the cockiest guy I have ever seen at any gym and was a well known gym bully. He was fresh off fracturing Arlovskis rib in sparring at Jackson’s before he came to us. He would be quick to say who he felt was trash and whenever he spoke of jones he said the guy is a beast which is an incredibly high honor from reem at that time. Van Arsdale used to pick Reems brain about it as he prepared Rashad for his title fight. It was daily conversation for the couple months leading up to the fight.

Also I’ve said it before but Rashad was a fucking specimen prior to fighting jones. He worked so incredibly hard to prepare for that fight and looked insane in sparring. It was a fantastic camp and I would have bet the house on Rashad, he is a special talent. With that said I will NEVER bet against Jones again there are levels to this game and Jones is levels above the rest.

With the size difference, not gonna be surprised if he test positive again.

There's definitely a good reason behind those attributes lol.

He looks way outside of his natural frame.

Lmao I read it as “this isn’t the same Jones who partied up all weekend and then beat his fiancé”
