Media Jon Jones talks about almost breaking Machida's neck

That was barutal. I thought he dieded.

"I had his neck pretty tight. I honestly felt like I could've broken his neck at the time."

Could Machida have been the first serious casualty of the octagon? The fact that the thought even went through his mind shows that he goes to some dark places in his mind. Thank goodness he showed mercy and didn't break Machida's neck for the world to see.

No. I think he was saying that he had it so tight that he could have torqued it and the grip was tight enough to have done that.

I don't think he was saying the choke hold, as he was applying it, could have broken his neck. It was a blood choke. You're not wrenching the neck when you apply that.

Its happened many times before and after Lyoto got choked. Lyoto himself said this is a combat sport and he wasn't upset about it after the fact.

This is MMA, what do you expect? You wanted Jones to lay him down softly and tuck him in with a pillow and a blanket?

If the guy is out cold and the ref has called the fight? Yeah, you can put him down carefully. It's combat, but still a sport. Never know when you might need an opponent to do the same for you.

Jon's fight IQ was off the charts, you can't forget how young he was at this time and all the other LHWs were considered to be the golden age LHWs and in their prime. Just to see this skinny kid run over all the killers, you forget all the names he ran through were like the fabled Pride HW division. They were all as well rounded as you can get in your career and mostly peak physical form.

Foretaste of Jon the Heel?

I mean how many fighters have had their opponents neck in a way they could have broken it? I don't know how difficult it actually is to do, and obviously nobody is going to do that in a professional MMA fight. But how many guys like Khabib, or Oliveira have had someone's back, or had a standing choke in a way where they could say "fuck the choke" and break it?

I honestly have no idea but if he really wanted to, how difficult would it be to do from here?

In real life It takes a lot of force, and you have to get the person’s head into a certain position and make sure the rest of their body doesn’t move, otherwise the body will just move with the neck.
it went from "nearly impossible " and "never in my life" to "positioning and technique" real fast

I wanted him to lay Lyoto down softly on a warm pillow and blanket. Is that too much to ask?

Never in your life will you see a human being come close to snapping another human being’s neck. It’s nearly impossible.

Google that bjj incident where a trainer left a student paralyzed on accident. By sort of putting weight on his spine and neck and moving. Not even cranking it.

There is an incident of a mma fighter on the regional or small mma scene becoming paralysed after the fight. Google that too.

You realize the ref would have just tackled him off, right? Holding on to a slump opponent may not be looked at as kindly in the ref eyes. Jon let him go, and Machida fell.

I get what you're saying, but MMA is not like other sports. They're cage fighters competing in a simulated fight to the death. Laying someone down softly after you choke them unconscious is not expected, nor should it be.

Heres a quote from Lyoto on the topic: "It was totally respectful to me," Machida told SPORTV.com (via Google translation). "It was a shocking [end] to the story. Sometimes, those who hear may [wonder] if there was any disrespect, but he did his job, choked me and won. You can't ask him to make love to me, right?"

Yeah you kids must be confusing movies with real life.

Speaking from experience, the easiest way is to pull someones neck backward with a sharp upturn from behind while they are sitting in a chair, almost a reverse guillotine.

Not sure if you are serious or just trolling

The coldest part of that whole interview was when Jones said, "it was beautiful."
