Jon Jones is the greatest combat athlete in history

if mma had the same amount of cans that boxing does and if boxing had way more variables working against your favor which could cause a loss, I’m sure they would be similar

You think HW champs face cans? WTF?

The road to the title shot in boxing is paved with a lot of cans, but once one becomes champ they face killers. A "can" doesn't get a title shot.

For example: the closet thing to a "can" that Tyson faced in his first run as champion was Buster Douglas. The closest thing to a "can" that Ali faced as champion was Leon Spinks (gold medal winner).

I don’t see this talked about enough on here

Jon Jones is the undisputed greatest fighter pound for pound of all time

he is 28-0 against killers, over a decade of dominance

Hamill, Bonnar, Bader, Shogun, Machida, Rampage, Rashad, Glover, OSP, Cormier x2, Gus x2, Thiago Santos, Reyes, Vítor Belfort, Chael Sonnen, Matyushenko, Anthony Smith, Brandon Vera

That is a crazy fucking list I don’t care if you walk into the cage with a needle in your ass
"Combat athlete"? Nah. He's really not an exceptional athlete, and everything he does, there are people who do it better. Jones greatest gift is his insane reach, which he's built his whole style upon. Similar to Adesanya in that respect, and we saw what happened when he faced somebody with similar reach. Adesanya was incapable of really landing anything of note on Jan because he's used to being able to snipe from outside of their reach. Jones is the same.

I don't know enough about other combat sports but some of the old boxers had ridiculous records and fought greats as well.

He's the MMA goat for sure

It's really sad to be hugging the nuts of a chronic lying cheat like Jones. Poor DC may never be the same after getting kicked in the head by Mr. Roidmonster. Jones is a piece of shit in his personal life, there is no disputing that; he is a cheater in his professional life, there is no disputing that either. Trying to rationalize the whole "everyone is on roids" bit just makes you look like the same kind of clown that he is.

Greatest in combat sports? That's a good one. He fights in a mucxh thinner combat sport talentwise than others, so that would be a hard sell even if he actually won those fights legitimately, which he didn't.

Flamma is not impressed by ts statement. Words fall from mouth like shit from ass.

Mma doesn't have near the history for one of its athletes to be considered greatest combat sports athlete. Jones as the best mma fighter possibly but combat sports no chance with the history boxing has even wrestling or muay thai have a more decorated history of great athletes than mma.

I dont really consider guys like

Hamil
Bonnar
Rashad
OSP
Gus
Sonnen ( at lhw)
Smith
Vera

real killers of the sport. They def had some fame but never were really that good

to each their own I guess

LOL! What?
Rashad wasnt a killer?

Damn dudes need to get their MMA history

Rashad was an undefeated LHW champion. He had 1 loss to the new champion, undefeated Machida. Hes HOF material
Gustaffson had 1 career loss as #1 LHW contender
Vera was 11-4 and against the 9-1 Jones (He later went on to become One FC HW champion)

MMA is the most complete combat sport in the world and involves Striking, Grappling, and any useful martial art style.

do you think a pure fighter who practices only one martial art can beat an mma champion?!

the world boxing champion would be humiliated in the cage.

seemed like a bigger deal back when the fights were being announced but now that you really look at the fighters and where they are at now not that impressive

What the hell are you talking about? Seriously! Rampage is a fat 43 year old now so Jon kicking his ass a decade ago when he was still legit as hell is not impressive? Wrecking Shogun, Bader, Glover, Cormier (twice), Hamill, and Rashad when they were at their respective bests isn't impressive? C'mon kid, you're not even trying here!

Gotta have Henry Cejudo in that discussion.

Had a pet rat who went 49-0 against other rats in our Rat Fighting Championship League. Also went toe to toe with a beaver and lets just say -he didnt lose..

How can you be a drugs cheat and be the best? Makes no sense. Is L. Armstrong the best in his sport then?

Dude has lost at least two of his disputed 3 decisions. And is a proven cheater.

nah.

Pfft I'll fuck them sell up using my board with nail style.

the term "generational talent" gets thrown around a lot, but it truly applies to someone like jones. i watched his rise to the top, from start to finish (it was a very quick rise), and i must say he made it look downright easy. he started mma late, then promptly entered the ufc and became an undefeated champion. who does that? only the best of the best can do that, and jones was the best of that group.

that said, he ruined his own legacy by cheating. so he'll be remembered as that one super talented guy who cheated. he'll be in good company on the list of tainted greats, but within a decade, someone will accomplish what jones did without peds, and he'll be forgotten. it goes to show—"generational" talent is rare, but it is not irreplaceable. like the name suggests, it comes along about once every generation. the next guy to come along should remember that; all men are mortal, and so are their legacies.

I actually agree. People hate in Jones because he's an arrogant psychopath cheater, but his accomplishments are unparalleled. Plus everyone else is also on steroids. I think Lance Armstrong is a good comparison for him. Everyone doped in Tour de France but still Armstrong won 7 titles. People hate him because he's a giant asshole that destroyed others' careers in addition to the cheating

I don't disagree, but I think you missed the biggest reason people "hate" on him.

He puts on a fake choir boy act for the camera, then crashes into pregnant ladies and flees the scene of his crime.

That said, intentions should matter and Jon doesn't try to be a giant POS, it just comes naturally.

I don't think I've ever seen a fighter as naturally gifted as Jon Jones.

Dude went from his debut to 6-0 in 4 months, signed in the UFC one month later and just started absolutely dismantling people.

One does not simply walk into the UFC with 4 months worth of pro fights under his belt and start dominating a fighter like Andre Gusmao and suplexing and dropping someone like Stephan Bonnar with spinning back elbows unless they're wholly legit. None of this 'build them slowly' shit.

Jones went on to easily out-strike strikers, easily out-wrestle wrestlers, and easily beat some of the most legendary names in 205 history.

Numerous self-implosions aside, Jon Jones did seem to start insisting on fighting full five round fights for pretty much no reason at one point, though.

I genuinely think if ever there was an MMA fighter who found it too easy, it was Jones. Out-of-competition distractions aside (which, like Conor, have allowed everyone else to catch up), Jones is the best pure fighter I've ever seen - as a GOAT he is second only to Fedor Emelianenko, with every opportunity to finally dislodge the Last Emperor.

Steroid argument or not, you are correct.

I just hope he isn't the complete piece of shit that it seems.
