Him fighting Stipe isn’t a fight the fans clamor for, there’s enough duck going around that there is merit to it. I hope Stipe pulls off a convincing win.

If this fight had happened a year ago with stipe I would have been interested. But after the injury and it being so long this fight makes no sense. It will look good having stipes name on his resume though in the long run. So I get it sort of.

Dana trying to write this down in history as the greatest HW fight of all time, in a misguided attempt to Crown Jon Jones as the HW King for beating the UFC HW with the most title defenses.

All this to cope with losing Ngannou to free agency, and failing to sabotage Ngannou’s career by using the media to play him out to be greedy and unreasonable.

Tl, dr - this nonsensical fight is happening because of Dana White’s pettiness.

He's ducking, but lets just put it in context:
- He HAS actually moved up in weight and won the belt.

It's a double standard, since other """greats""" don't even need to move up at all, let alone win a belt in the division above.
Hell, a lot of them starve themselves to make their "actual" weight.

So the truth is, this is blatant ducking, but we are also holding JBJ to a much higher standard than we do other GOAT candidates.

Both things can be true.

Jon was on the crest of a wave but then pesky fuckin tom comes along and fucks everything.

I mean it's pretty obvious ducking and I am a big fan of Jones.

Using his logic, he would have never fought Gane because beating him proved nothing. Who the fuck did Gane beat to be worth fighting?

If Tom was the guy instead of Gane for the pretender belt, I think Jon doesn't accept the fight.

He is def ducking but it's understandable. I'd choose to fight 42 year old too rather than the 30 year old killer as my retirement fight.

Sherdoggers just have double standards. Most people here would rather fight Stipe than Aspinall if they were in Jon's shoes.

I would as well. Beating aspinall only means a tad bit at that moment for a few fans. It wony mean anything tomorrow, or a decade from now.

Why not make Jones vs. Poatan for the BMF belt?

That would solve all these problems. It's a shiny new belt that has financial implications and prestige.

then they can promote Aspinall as undisputed HW champion and make Aspinall vs Gane/Volkov winner.
That's literally what Jon suggested today in order to deny Poatan the chance at a 3rd real belt since Jon knows that would put Alex over him. Pretty pathetic IMO

"ducking"

he has a gaggle of title fights and is almost 40. he isn't obligated to fight anyone anymore. he can vacate the belt and have a super fight with Alex unless the UFC wants to give Alex a chance at a 3-division title run.

the driving force of this conversation is weird keyboard warriors just trying to cash in on a "for sure" loss for JJ, which they've not had in 15 years and it drives them insane.

Jon has the right to fight Stipe. If you look at the timeline Aspinall was nowhere in the picture. Aspinall has no right to call out jones for fighting Stipe because the fight was booked before he was anything in the division. So the fight with Stipe is a fight that Aspinall has no relevance in. Now going forward after the Stipe fight, if jones does not defend against Aspinall than he has a right because currnetly has relevance as the next in line.

I do not get the Stipe over Aspinall nonsense. Aspinall was nowhere in sight when it was booked.

See above. Just clamoring for the chance to cheer at Jones losing his first fight. They just wanna feed off negativity.

Really?

Where did Joens say that

As much as I loathe Jones, cherry picking your last couple isn’t a big deal. Especially considering he generally fought everybody put in front of him. This is a legacy fight for Jon. Fight means absolutely NOTHING to the landscape of HW MMA.

Lol @ jon pretending to take the high road after his career long of juvenile behavior

This whole Jones outrage is getting silly, Jon is 100% correct here.

The Jones vs Stipe fight was booked before Aspinall started his winning streak, The UFC decided to go with this GOAT vs GOAT fight over prioritizing the unification of the HW title. Fans are asking for an Aspinall fight when the man hasn't even stepped in the cage with Stipe yet.

Jon is absolutely right about how Aspinall doesn't do as much for him as a fight with Poatan would. If he beats Aspinall people will discredit the win the same way they did with Gane.

Jon is just in a lose/lose kind of situation; he's fighting Stipe who the fans are trying to pretend is a bum. But when last seen Stipe was going toe to toe with Ngannou, it's not like we have any evidence at all that stipe isn't still a top 3 HW in the world, while simultaneously being the most accomplished HW on the UFC roster. Fans are caught up in the narratives and dislike of Jones, but the truth is we just don't know enough right now.

Really should be the last nail in the defending Jon Jones coffin for most people. It's an obvious attempt at denying Poatan a rightful chance for a third REAL title just so he couldn't outdo Jon, so he suggests the "BAMF" belt.
"So we can both fight for a third belt."
Fucking pathetic.

He is scared of facing a man who has size on him, power on him, and who isn't a one dimensional kickboxer like Gane, and who is years younger than Jon, just like Jon was years younger than all of his opponents during his run up until Smith and Reyes. This is the most indefensible case of ducking outside of GDR in the sports history IMO.
