Jon Fitch has said the fighters were better during his era because....

They fought less fights a year. Any truth to this? What does this mean?
Less fighters = more stiff competition?
Less filler fights?
Winning streaks meant more?

Fuck Jon Fitch.

The 1940s and 1950s was the most incredible era of boxers, ever, in the history of boxing.

Think Sugar Ray Robinson, Henry Armstrong, Chawky Wright, Jake LaMotta, Fritzie Zivic , Archie Moore, etc., etc., etc.

Fighters had HUNDREDS of fights. Fought for pennies.
(Henry Armstrong defended his title 5x, in one month.)

These fighters were deeply game, incredibly schooled, incredibly talented.
They were bad to the bone, because to get at that level, with that type of schedule, you had to be something truly special.

So to compare the pussified pansies of today, who only fight 1-3x a year, to warriors like these?

It's utterly laughable.

Goats of the past, would be goats today, and vice versa, because allot of them have something you can't teach. Its a gift..

Look at Big Daddy situation you think that's right ? It's not your Body it's easy talk about Fighters when you're nothing fighting, Thank God Fighters doesn't Fought for pennies anymore.

Every Old School Fighter Deserve Respect but the game evolved you can't have MMA fighters fighting 3 times in the same night like in UFC 1 for almost nothing, You know it's
inhuman.

Avg skill level of top 10 today is better but there are many fighters who should not be in the UFC. Today's UFC roster is close to 700, its way too bloated, being "in the big leagues" doesn't mean as much when you're 1 of 700 as opposed to 1 of 200 (I just pulled the 200 number as an example, not sure what it used to be but definitely nowhere near 700)

That shit was fucking wild at the time, but less impressive now knowing Johnny was juiced to the fucking gills
<{JustBleed}>

His Rigg was so supplemented that it became Bigg!

The elites of Fitchs era would for the most part be elite today as well.

The difference is more obvious when you compare the second, third, fourth etc tier fighters. Much more depth now both inside and outside of the UFC.

Nah The Game evolved MMA it's superior now and in 2050 MMA will be superior to 2023 the fight game always evolve.
Apparently not. Foreman became the champ at 45. Francis arguably beat the HW champ, an 0-0 boxer; the idea is laughable that he could have done that to prime Tyson, Lewis, Ali, etc.

In MMA, the lesser fighters are more well-rounded, but you do not have a higher ceiling with the best. The LHWs suck now compared to back in the day. HW has fewer elite fighters. GSP could still beat any WW, Anderson could tool MW. Most of these WCs have only 2-3 guys with any real chance of being champ (Islam/Charles, Pav/Tom, Volk/Max, etc.).

Combat sports are not like football or basketball where you have bigger and bigger players as the population increases the number of them. There are WCs, and really huge HWs don't tend to do that well in combat sports with speed and endurance considerations.
