Johny Hendricks still making excuses about Thompson loss

Watch Hendricks AND Gastelum miss weight. The UFC will just say, eff it, and make it a MW fight:

He's still bitter about the GSP loss, this isn't surprising.

Is he "still making excuses" or did he just say the exact same thing as before.....

He's giving his reasons why he thinks he lost. You just wont be happy because you hate Hendricks and he's not blowing whoever he lost too. He didn't flat out say "He's better than me" so you have an easy thing to use about a fighter you dislike. The only person who he didn't beat the fuck out of at least once, was Thompson. That's it.

People forget the amount of people who thought he won the 2nd Lawler fight too. He loses RAZOR thin decisions against the GOAT and Lawler and he's a scrub. He WINS a razor thin decision and the other fighter was "robbed". He's had one beat down his entire career. One.

Well, Johny came in feeling 110% and the weight cut didn't *seem* to be a problem, so I can kind of understand him spouting off excuses. I'm not saying that it doesn't make him look bad though.

Johny looked absolutely bewildered in that fight, as if Wonderboy's fighting style baffled him and he didn't know what to expect. Even Chris Clements, despite getting KTFO, fought as if he studied Wonderboy's fight footage inside and out.

Huh what?
Haven't seen you in a while man. Good to see you back. I've been missing your witty responses that have 100+ likes :D

Sherdog hates Hendricks on the level of disliking Tim Kennedy, the guy can't open his mouth without getting flack, neither of them can even if what their saying is just blasé dialogue.

The interview wasn't that bad, he gave WB props and really didn't make excuses as much as he just stated his own set of circumstances.

It wasn't a terrible interview, typical Sherdog will take quotes from fighters they dislike and run with it, make it seem cocky, arrogant, or Sherdog favorite is accusing a fighter of making excuses for losing, am I right?

lmao yeah I dislike Hendricks just for shits and giggles. I just shake violently anytime he opens his mouth, then choose his worst quotes and run with them

Or maybe he's just unlikable and made shitty excuses. Again.

meh.
those are not excuses, it is a reasoning of someone who needs to be able to rationalize a bad loss in a way he may still feel confident if they fight again.

Problem is, coming from someone you don't like, are excuses.
but if the same was spoken by someone you do like, you would say "he is right!!" or "make sense", etc.

If any of my favorite fighters actually came out and said "I couldn't find anyone to spar with me" or "my opponent ran and that's why I got KO'd in 3 minutes (???)" then I'd want them to face the music for making such pathetic excuses too.

Either that or you would try for a second to put yourself in his place and try to make sense of what he meant.
For instance: Machida and WB have styles that most fighters do not. they excel into this kind of fight, and as such it is very hard to find suitable fighters with similar styles to train with, that were available at the time of my camp...It's not all that surprising to me.
If you do think it is easy to find suitable fighters with this style, then IMO you are mistaken.

Or the fact he meant "run" with being effective maintaining distance. This was fairly obvious in the fight as well.

It obviously frustrates someone that needs to be close to his opponent to be effective.

then again, you can just sit back and hate. Your preference....

but again, if this was one of your favorite fighters, you would be understanding as I put, instead of blasting on him. I am just sure of it. Not because you are a bad person, but it is the human nature and inherited in such a competitive sport.

Well that's not what he said. He said he couldn't find people to train with because they think he's going to hurt them. But then he later bragged about apparently beating up Kelvin in a sparring match. Because he's unlikable.

He flat out said "running away" and insinuated Thompson didn't want to fight.

I don't hate him, I just think he's annoying.

If anyone I like ever said anything remotely similar to "my handwraps had me punching at 70%" I would be absolutely mortified. Believe me.

Really hope Gastelum pulls off a win here, and hope he cleans up his act and gets serious.

Both are good fighters, but have a tendency to make some pretty polarizing statements. Why wouldn't you expect some posts as a reaction to that?

Almost all fighters will make excuses, because they need to have that confidence in themselves that they are truly better than their opponents. Or at least a good portion of them do. I'm sure Johny just expresses them publicly, which may not always be the best audience for those thoughts.

Fighters on always in a tough spot when discussing losses. they need to be involved with the media because, let's face it, the UFC's idea of promotion is to wait until somebody gets attention and then go around saying that they are the best eva. So you are a fighter and you are doing these interviews and people are asking you about why you lost and why you think you will win the next one. it is very, very difficult to say much of anything that won't be labelled as an excuse.

when I listen to Johnny's interview I mostly just feel sorry for him. the dude is just not very articulate. I don't know him and so I don't know if he really is so clueless or if he just isn't good with the media.

cuz when you listen to him he just sounds salty, unprepared and out of touch. in the USADA era, preparation is going to be more and more important and that does not seem to bode well for Hendricks.

all that being said, I think he has a decent chance to beat the Gasman.

His only excuse should be USADA. Hendricks is the best example of pot calling the kettle black.

Well that's not what he said. He said he couldn't find people to train with because they think he's going to hurt them. But then he later bragged about apparently beating up Kelvin in a sparring match. Because he's unlikable.

Well, he proved his case then :)
So it might be true that he does hurt his sparing partners hence was having a hard time finding suitable ones...

He flat out said "running away" and insinuated Thompson didn't want to fight.

yes, but that's what every fighter who needs to be close will call out opponents who likes to stay at a distance.
In their mind, everyone should fight like them.

I don't hate him, I just think he's annoying.

Well. it amounts ot the same though (less willingness to try and understand the fighter). Mind you, I am guilty of the same things, and I do think it is just human nature. But knowing this, I just try to work harder to understand those I dislike. Not that I am always that willing or able to do so ;)

If anyone I like ever said anything remotely similar to "my handwraps had me punching at 70%" I would be absolutely mortified. Believe me.
well, those 70% have been greatly taken out of proportion to me.... if we are talking about him going at 70% against GSP.
He had (in his mind and the minds of many) that fight won. So why go all out???
I do tend to agree with him (I thought he won that fight and was literally coasting to an easy victory).

Well, obviously the judges disagree (why fighters shouldn't EVER coast). But that is what I took from that. And if his hands hurt when he punched, more of a reason to do so (pull back and coast). Specially if you think you won on points already.

If Hendricks chin isn't cracked after Condit, Lawler, n Wonderboy he should easily beat Gastellum

Yes he's annoying but he's literally better at every aspect of mma

Every aspect other than cardio. Granted, we haven't seen Gastelum in a five round affair before, but I still believe that most of the time he's shown up in better shape than Hendricks.

"You know what I mean, it is hard to fight a guy you know what I mean who is running away from you, you know what I mean? Not to mention you know what I mean, I didn't have the right training partners around me you know what I mean. No excuses, he was the better man that night you know what I mean, but one night doesn't define who the better fighter is you know what I mean? With thicker hand wraps and the right people in my camp you know what I mean I beat this guy 9 out of 10 times you know what I mean?"
You forgot "Does that even makes sense?" It replaced "nowattamean" as his most repeated catch phrase.

Hendricks said MULTIPLE times that WB was the better man that night at the PFPC. What you want him to do blow him?

He did bring up training partners and how he could lasso them into a trade. Is it in the best interest of paid training partners to make their boss look bad?
I dont think so. If he brought in Karate tournament circuit fighters and they let him trap them Im not sure they were doing they're job. High level guys just doing their game and not MMA would be able to evade Hendricks.

He lacks that extra gear that a champion is born with.

One doesn't get a sense (from watching him fight) that he is going to make that TURN during the fight...

Against Wonderboy he fucking wilted...which seemed par for the course, and even in the post fight interview he seemed content with losing.

EExcept that he was a champion, should of beaten Gsp and went toe to toe with Robbie "fuckin" Lawler for numerous rounds.

Some of you let emotions cloud your mind way too fucking much.

Hendricks is a fuckin beast when on point. Him being a douche doesn't change that

From Hendricks

"[The hand wraps] were sort of not so much rushed, but what happened was he was wrapping them and I saw that they just weren’t as thick as they should have been," Hendricks said. "I know I hit hard. I know I can’t allow that to happen. But instead of speaking up, I just went with the flow. I didn’t want to cause any ripples. So it’s all my fault, but that’s why my hands were that bruised, because that padding wasn’t thick enough for them."

Originally he said his hands were hurting in the fight, he was asked why, he said him wraps were thin and he could only really punch at about %70 power.

Sherdog heard "DUR MY TRAINER FUCKED MY WRAPS UP AND I WOULDVE KO'D GSP OR BROCK LESNAR WITH ONE PUNCH BUT HE FUCKED IT ALL UP AND I STOMP ON PUPPIES"
