Johnny Walker - Gold Dust?

If you don't bother to read the content, why would you bother commenting?

Not criticizing, just asking. I'm curious. I don't know that I would ever be motivated to do that. Strikes me as counter-intuitive.

"I am motivated to offer an opinion... but not motivated to know what I am opining on."

That's interesting to me.

well i didnt offer an opinion.
i saw Gold Dust and i thought it was the wrestler so i came into the thread but after the first sentence or so i thought that it wasnt what i entered the thread for but i wanted to say what i thought it was about

Goldust is one of my fav wrestlers of all time.

Walker is no goldust.

That’s an insult to greatness.

Walker just seems like he’s mentally ill.

I see the distinction. Got it.

What about Gold Dust makes him one of your favorites?

I grew up in the 80's, so wrasslin' was a big part of my childhood. I watched the HBO documentary on Andre the Giant last night. It was bloody fantastic.

Also, what about Walker makes you think he is mentally ill?

He just seems like he has crazy eyes.

Goldust for me during the late 90s-00 with booker T was just *gold*

Absolutely hilarious segments. A lot of them got pulled from YouTube, idk why.

But Dustin Rhodes has actually really good acting skills and did pretty good impersonations.

His gimmick was just so unlike anyone else’s. Always made me laugh.

~350 words of text, and 3 easily and immediately accessible YouTube videos represents significant research in your world?

Wow. Right on, I guess. o_O

I write 25 - 100 page briefs regularly... so perhaps my perspective is skewed.
Congratulations

I must admit, I saw it too. And his recent interview post-fight where he says he does not go out drinking, just training, plus how sheepishly he said it, makes me feel like he is not comfortable in his world. He travels constantly, exploring different cultures and styles. Almost like a gay man who has little interest in the sex he is attracted to, as well as the kind he is supposed to want but doesn't, so instead focuses on being Ryu.

Oddly, despite being usually skeeved out by gays and gender-bending stuff, with him, would not really bother me. I think he is adorable. By far my breakout fighter of 2019 so far.

This sounds likes homophobics to me.

I would invite you to read the OP again, carefully, and then explain to me, first what you mean by "homophobic", and second, what specifically about the OP is homophobic.

I must admit, I find your comment disappointing.

I generally enjoy a lot of your content.

EDIT: I do find it fascinating that the exact same OP has generated occasional accusations of (1) You're gay; and (2) You're homophobic... a diametrically opposed response. Similarly, the purpose of the OP is more an inquiry about the possibility of deliberate gimmick than sexuality.

Its a letterkenny reference. Anyway i wouldnt say its threadworthy, only gonna go down in flames here.

I guess the thread-worthiness depends on the sophistication, sensibilities and level of interest of the reader.

I grew up in the 80's with the WWE (although I stopped watching after my first year of Undergrad, after the end of the Monday Night Wars).

I've also been a fan of MMA since its inception in North America.

As a more mature adult, I have become increasingly fascinated by the psychology behind both businesses.

I think Chael Sonnen does a great job of discussing this on his podcast; marketing, what does and does not capture the fans' imagination and support (or rejection), and also the psychology of the athletes themselves, who they are, what motivates them, how they find success, how they manage their careers, etc...

I love the fights (I was involved in combat sports for years myself), but I am also interested in the overall business, the culture, the fighters as people, and what is going on behind the scenes as well. It goes beyond the punches and kicks for me. If I only cared about the punches and kicks, I would never spend any time on this forum. Indeed... over the years, we've seen less and less legitimate, enlightened fight analysis on these boards...

Indeed, if it were only about the punches and kicks, Conor McGregor would never have achieved the level of success that he did.

I do agree that for a fan who only cares about the violence in the Octagon, the OP would seem like a waste of time... and, of course, there's noting wrong with not being interested in the discussion.

I disagree however, that my observation and question is not thread-worthy.

I think those are two different things.

Besides, have you read the content on these boards lately?
