Good morning boys.
I sifted through a few pages of threads and also did a brief google search and found no commentary.
Last night I was watching the PPV with my cousin and my old lady.
We noted the following:
- During the immedia pre-fight video-interview for Walker v. Cirkunov, Walker is clearly wearing either lip gloss, or peach-coloured lipstick.
- In the fight, it looked like he was wearing nude (colour) finger nail polish, at least on his left hand.
- He was very physically familiar with a large gentleman in his corner. The man had his arm around Walker with his hand on his a$$, in a way that seemed suggestive (you would need to re-watch right up to the point where they leave the Octagon).
- He seemed very effeminate in his post fight behaviour.
- He has come to the ring in the past doing a stripper-dance, tear-away pants, bow tie and cuffs.
The foregoing would lead me to surmise that Walker is perhaps bisexual or gay (or simply playing a role), but I’ve seen no commentary to that effect. I don’t mind one way or the other, but his behaviour does strike me as deliberate.
My cousin mused; “It would be hilarious if this is a subversive troll-job like Gold Dust back in the day in WWE... you have a bunch of hyper-masculine dudes, acting like tough guys, rolling around half-naked, and one guy decides to throw it all in everyone’s face and be flamboyant af.”
I agree that would be pretty hilarious. Especially if he started playing up a persona on the mic. Ironic, given he is so dangerous. At the very least, he does seem to be making a conscious effort to create a flamboyant spectacle. If so... I think this is the first time we’ve seen this approach in MMA. I also think this gimmick (if that’s what it is) could actually serve him very well from a marketing perspective.
Did anyone else make similar observations, or does this seem way off-base?
Either way, fantastic to watch and an absolute killer and his “persona” certainly seems novel and interesting.
Ka-Boom.
Remember party-boy from Jackass?
The second video would be better if it ran until they leave the Octagon...
Look at how he undulates while the ring-man applies vasaline at 0:23, or how he looks at his opponent salaciously and raises his eyebrows during the staredown at 1:07 in the video below... among other things:
EDITED to include some good insights from @Iroh
