This guy was once a very highly touted director and his Hollywood debut was impressive but most of his movies were crap after that.

Pretty sure h became an alcoholic

After he got done ripping off Quentin Tarantino he gave up making movies.

:p

He stopped making movies in America like 15 years ago or something. He has made a few Chinese movies since then though, which I am ashamed to say I have not checked out.

Already achieved legendary status for his 80s/90s work though. Hard Boiled and The Killer are two of the best action movies ever filmed imo, and Face/Off is a classic. Lots of other fun movies. Really had his own style.

Would love to see him come back and make another modern gun opera. Hollywood or China.

He was no longer in Woo with hollywood

Last I heard he directed Brokeback Mountain. Oh man! Sorry!!!

It was Ang Lee!!!!1 SORRRRY!! :(

He is a producer now, like Francis Ford Coppola became after he directed a few big ones. John Woo produced Red Cliff.

wasn't his hollywood debut, Hard Target w/ JCVD and Wilford Brimley?

if so, and you called it 'impressive' than fuck ya, and i agree entirely. he literally has a mullett, and punches a snake for the KO....

Face off was an awesome movie

He is famous for making a shot that chicks love. I have to say I didn't love his version of The Hulk.

I don't get this joke.

Could be referring to Tarantino ripping off the story of Reservoir Dogs from a chinese movie called City On Fire, but COF was directed by Ringo Lam not John Woo.

The world THANKFULLY realized that he is a total hack who can't do anything other than recycle the few good things he did 25 years ago and stopped giving him A-list projects. He now sits around a table with Renny Harlin, Michael Cimino and M. Night Shyamalan, drinking and reminiscing about the glory days.

Guys like Woo really make you appreciate how someone like Spielberg managed to succeed with projects as different as Jaws, Schindler's List and Saving Private Ryan over the course of several decades.
