Movies JOHN WICK Official Thread (Dragonlord's Review)

Wow is this really about a man avenging his dog? I can enjoy a guilty-pleasure revenge flick but that's just stupid. Don't think I'll be watching.

there's more to it than that. with out spoiling it i'll stop there

For those that love John Wick, you might be interested to know that Keanu is going to star in his first major TV series, John Rain. He plays a half-Japanese, half-American assassin. His John Wick directors will co-executive produce.

John Rain TV Series Starring Keanu Reeves

Oops, misread.

This looks like it'll be worth checking out. So far not a fan of the movie-to-TV-show transitions though I'm not sure I'm thinking of all the actors who've pulled it off successfully (Charlie Sheen might be the most successful?). Put it this way, I can't see Cruise or Pitt doing it - it seems like a down-grade.

Despite John Wick's success, Keanu's career hasn't been on fire lately. I don't think it's a downgrade considering the actor's status currently. Plus, Matthew McConaughey's run on True Detective helped boost his career. Also there's a lot of big movie stars that are now working on TV.

I think John Rain is ten episodes only, which leaves him a lot of free time to continue making movies.

Good call on True Detective and Matthew McConaughey, particularly if it's just 10 episodes. And it's true Reeves career had more or less stalled out prior to Wick.

Fun movie.

8/10.

When I first saw the trailers I thought it looked stupid, but after reading some reviews I decided to see it, I went in expecting an action movie and I left feeling satisfied.

John Wick - 9/10

Fantastic movie. It was hyped up by friends who'd seen it and told me about it, and it lived up to the hype completely. Extremely fast paced. Very good action scenes, none of the over the top Jason Statham action hero type stuff. Very realistic and brutal. Story is fairly basic but it's irrelevant. Once the movie gets going I couldn't care less why John Wick is on a war path. I'm just happy he's doing it and I get to watch.

Nightcrawler - 8/10

Great suspense/thriller. Gyllenhaal disappears into his role. Disturbing character played perfectly. Great story, flows well, and I really enjoyed the ending. Slightly slow start but nothing to avoid the movie over.

Reminded me of Dredd with better hand-to-hand combat and less graphic shootouts. Thought it was awesome. Short movie and I think if they spent more time showing the dog it could have been more of an emotional scene, but I guess they just wanted to get straight to the killing as soon as possible. Would watch again. 9/10

This was a near perfect movie to me. The music choices were beyond perfect. The song during the Red Circle scene and that Marilyn Manson song Killing Strangers will be new additions to my workout mix.

The dog worked the feels for me. It didn't drag but it wasnt so short you didn't understand the motivation.

Other high points:

- the douchey son was perfectly cast.

-the world, including the dinner reservations and the Continental, were brilliant and invorporated slowly enough and without any fanfare so that they were believable.

-while KR had to show very little acting range for most of the movie, the scene when he was tied up and yelling at Viggo was very well done.

-the head shots...oh the head shots. So satisfying to see an effective hit man like that.

I am thrilled KR is back and now I can't wait for John Rain.

I loved the BJJ/Judo in the film too. I admit the past couple of years it's hard to watch some action flicks because the striking is so unrealistic it kind of lost its appeal to me. John Wick's hand-to-hand was awesome. The way he used throws and ground control was pretty slick and for the most part believable compared to many other movies. Loved the bow and arrow choke he got too. Just an awesome movie

John wick 11/10

Writer/Director Michael Scott ("threat level midnight", "jack reacher") really hits his stride in his 3rd film. It takes place I. That alternative universe where women are as beautiful as they are deadly, you never trust a Russian, and all bad guys know Kung fu. A world where assassins drive muscle cars, and after being stabbed, beaten with a bat and thrown off a balcony onto your back, all you need is a stiff bourbon and a few stitches to be right as rain and sound as a pound. This film is a masterpiece and will surely put the part time director and paper company manager on the map.

This has gotta be the first time I ever consciously realized how awesome the soundtrack was. That Manson tune was fantastic. Wick was probably my favorite movie this year.

John Wick

Cool action and cool cars.
Didn't really get me invested in his cause or even that anybody but Reek deserved to die.
Final Boss battle was a joke. Did anybody think The Most Interesting Man in the World was going to be a worthy adversary?

6/10 for the cars and fight scenes.
