JOHN WICK: CHAPTER 2 Earns $30 Million on Opening Weekend

Warner Bros.' The Lego Batman Movie won the Valentine's Day weekend box-office race with $53 million from 4,088 theaters. Conversely, the erotic, S&M-laced Fifty Shades Darker came in ahead of projections with $46.6 million from 3,710 theaters.

John Wick: Chapter 2, the weekend's third new entry, came in well ahead of expectations for Lionsgate with $30.4 million from 3,113 theaters — more than double the $14.4 million debut of John Wick in February 2014. John Wick 2 nabbed an A- CinemaScore and placed No. 3 behind Lego Batman and Fifty Shades. Males made made up 64 percent of the audience.

Directed by Chad Stahelski, John Wick 2 also stars Common, Laurence Fishburne, Riccardo Scamarcio, Ruby Rose, John Leguizamo and Ian McShane. The film took in $10.6 million from 41 overseas markets for a global debut of $40.6 million.

Lego Batman and John Wick 2 currently boast the same strong rating on Rotten Tomatoes — 91 percent fresh — while Fifty Shades boasts a rotten 9 percent.

Split and Hidden Figures rounded out the top five at the North American box office with $9.3 million and $8 million, respectively. Spilt's domestic total stands at $112 million for a global cume of $169.4 million, while Hidden Figures has earned a glowing $131.5 million domestically, the most of any film vying in the best picture Oscar race.

Just saw this a couple of hours ago. Badass movie and a great sequel. Fantastic action scenes. And some of the best representations of grappling I've seen in a film. Too bad we didn't get to see John finish that triangle unlike that sort of bow and arrow type choke from the first movie.

And a sequel is almost assured given the way it ended.

9/10

The only way I can see John getting out of this one is for him to do a job for the High Table.

A job big enough and impossible enough that the other 11 members would out-vote the Camorra and put John under their protection if he achieves it.

That's a tough sell though. The High Order in theory has access to 12 houses worth of assassins. If they needed to get a job done they could literally send an army. I think it going to have to be something marker related. They made a point early in the movie to mention that the Santino marker was from when John had no way out of some impossible situation. And then, they made it a point to have Winston give John the marker, so he might use it for the same purpose I would think.

Just saw it on a Valentine's Day date lmao, was fucking awesome

If the third one is as good, this may be the best trilogy ever

Easily one of the best films I've seen, need to go back and watch it again because there is so much beautiful action it's going to be worth a rewatch.
10/10 best action film I've seen.

My sentiments exactly. The movie was so much fun and a hell of a thrill ride. I'd like to add that Common was pretty bad ass himself in the film. The fights with Wick and Cassian were probably my favorite of the fisticuffs in the film. I was really happy with how the deadpan/dry humor was even more prevalent in this one than the first.

Only complaint I really have is how it seemed like everyone and their grandmother was an assassin; when it came to receiving the text info about Wick's contract. Fucking lol'd at that. But that's it, Chapter 2 I think topped the first, but I gotta watch them back to back when the Blu Ray drops for the sequel to really say that unequivocally.

Man, I'm so pumped for chapter 3. But I think we all should go into it with slightly lower expectations. I'm not expecting it to be a shit-show like most threequels, but the bar is so damn high.

I'll say this, the only way I think I will be satisfied with the resolution of Wick's journey is if he gets a heroes death. Because he was already out of the game and dipped his head back in. There really shouldn't be any way he finds peace and gets out again. He's addicted to the violence. Addicted to the vengeance. The only realistic way he should find peace is through death.

There's talk of a prequel series, but if that's the case, I hope it's not actually about John Wick. I'd like to see a spin-off, either based around the Continental, with new characters rotating in and out, or even one centered around the exploits of Ms. Perkins from the first film. Adrianne Palicki is 10/10 hot and I'd watch her kick ass and shoot faces any day.

Just watched v2, lotsa fun.

Might've done without the part at the beginning with him getting his car back as it didn't really add much to the movie.. And especially because he beat the hell out of the car as it were. Perhaps they really wanted to get Stormare in the movie somehow? Who knows?

I thought it fit, just to show how it was the principle of him getting the car back at any cost. Whether it be in one piece, or beat to shit.

Plus we got the joke about it being ready by Christmas 2030, lol.

Keanu Reeves Shares His Ideas for JOHN WICK: CHAPTER 3

John-Wick-Chapter-2-Keanu-Reeves-Laurence-Fishburne-Dragonlord.png

Truly excited by the idea of another entry in the Wickiverse, Keanu Reeves basically acted out how he saw the next film playing out, picking up from where Chapter 2 left off.

"I think the opening of the film should be Wick just trying to escape from New York," Reeves told Empire. "Literally trying to get off the island. Maybe he asks [Lawrence Fisburne's character] the Bowery King for help. Maybe John Leguizamo comes and helps me out. "John, I can't do it, you're excommunicado!""

Reeves continued in an animated fashion: "Maybe the High Table shows up. And then the High Table starts firing guns. And then maybe this kind of thing starts to happen between the High Table and Continental? Maybe John is the activator of this confrontation, and perhaps there's a war? Wouldn't that be awesome?!"

Director Chad Stahelski, for his part, did not go into specific details of what a third Wick outing might look like, but did tease the expansion of the shady assassin's underworld.

"I'd say, if we were so lucky to continue the series, I'd like to expand the world maybe another 25%," he explained. "But then I'd like to go deeper into the world that people already know – another 50%."

I believe John Wick is the same character from Knock Knock

7.5/10, no where near a 9/10 that people are voting here.

Looking forward to the third film. I believe it should open to over 45 million

A lot of Judo in this movie. I like the ending. Makes you can't wait to watch the 3rd movie.
