About a year ago a dude at the 7/11 said I look like John Wick

I don’t watch a lot of tv or movies but it peaked my interest so I found the films free on Roku at a place I’m staying at & just finished binge-watching the 4 film series

Totally ridiculous yet cool entertainment but what bugged me was all the times he could’ve been killed but his enemy gave him a break. The Asian fighters with the knives, Winston on the roof shot him in the suit instead of the head, etc.

I like the premise of an underworld of assassins that adhere to rules & he’s “the guy you send to kill the boogyman” but those times his life was spared just when they had him kind of diminish it

What say you?

I never wonder how joker knew to put a cell phone in his henchman's abdomen in TDK, he would have had to intended to be caught (by Gordon no less) during their attempted attack on the convoy carrying Harvey Dent.

My mind just chalks it up to "eh, he's smart. He probably figured it out offscreen" and that was that lol

The answer to your question?
"Because that's how they wrote it in the script"

The Asian assassins (from THE RAID films) didn't actually want to kill John Wick, they were just excited to meet him and do battle with him, as fans. They had to make it look good for the bosses, so they wouldn't get wiped out by the High Table -- but they weren't trying to kill John at all costs, they respected him. That's why they helped him up at one point.

John immediately returns the professional courtesy to them, because soon after when he gets the better of both of them, they aren't dead -- you can see they both kind of pretend to be knocked out... and John plays along, rather than finishing them off.

As for Winston, he was straight up faking trying to kill John. He shot John in the armor on purpose, figuring if John went off the roof, at least there was some chance he'd live. He actively wanted to fake John's death to help him.
