I've always considered John Kavanagh an intelligent and thoughtful person. His interviews and quotes are filled with wisdom about fighting and life in general.

With that said, making lighthearted jokes about Islam is stupid and even more so when you add the fact that John lives in Europe, the part of the Western World that's been hit hardest by terrorism post-9/11.

It should be clear by now that Islam is a sensitive religion. All other religions can give a rats ass about what non-believers have to say. Christians in America have increasingly seen Cristianity turned into all sorts of comedic material. And they just take it on the chin.

Islam treats these things differently. Charlie Hedbo was a clear example of how seriously Muslims can take jokes about Islam/Mahammad.

The Western world should know by now: don't joke about Islam. If you can't get your kicks by making fun of Christianity, Mormonism, Scientology, Buddhism, etc, then It's time to find joking material outside of religion.

I hate it as much as the next person, how sensitive Muslims can be. But reality is what it is. And John Kavanagh should know that reality very well: Europe has been in a cultural struggle with Islam for the last decade.

Theres a huge difference between drawing cartoons of the prophet mohammed, and making a quip about picking religion wisely so you dont have to fight during ramadan

anything and everything should be made fun of, if you stop making fun out of muslims just because they react badly then its accepting that its ok for them to react badly.... and that shit doesnt sit well with me. As I have mixed heritage(half Iranian, Half Scot. I identify as a Scot though) I have empathy for the moderate muslims that get a lot of racism thrown there way when they dont deserve it, but shit like this annoys me..... if they dont like a joke, then dont like the joke. Here is the thing. If Muslims really got violent over this stuff then it would be more than just random terrorist attacks. There is maybe what, 1 in 1000 Muslims who are radicalized? Really not fair to judge all the other Muslims based on what these guys do. Think I'm wrong? Do you know how many Muslims there are on the planet? Can you imagine the state of war on this planet if they mostly all weren't peaceful?

No religion should receive special treatment and be protected from ridicule. To attempt to do so out of fear of the consequences is cowardly and on the long run only allows it to fester into something nasty which is what has happened with Islam. Ignoring it isn't going to make it go away.
