Boom. Exactly. If you have a problem relating to people in fiction because they arent the same race as you perhaps theres some hang up YOU need to address not fuckin society
He's a .Lol this buffoon has a spectacularly punchable face
Would you really expect many women to be part of the Fellowship, though? I know that we often forget this in this age of every movie having a heroine, but being a warrior throughout history has almost always been a man's job. Sure, there are some outliers, but not many.
Interesting. I never thought about it that way.Lady elves can fuck things up throughput Tolkien's lore, but it's inconsistent. And Galadriel is one of the most powerful beings in middle earth. Tolkien's Catholicism, however, usually has him "essentializing" what femininity is via some metaphysical transcendental, which elves especially embody.
I agree. It doesn't take away from the underlying myth. That was my point that I wasn't getting across well. What Tolkien is after is bigger than some of these issues.I dont mind that the heroes are all men,or the lack of female characters....but i am not against powerful female characters,if they are there. The movies certainly tried to expand on that with Eowyn and so on...
For me,its the same as the lack of "ethnic" characters. If they arent there,it doesnt matter, really. That is not what makes a good story. If all the heroes are men,it doesnt bother me. Im a man, they are men? cool. Does it make the story any better if there are more women? I cant say thats true. Would Reservoir Dogs be a better movie if there were ANY women in this movie, other than the girl who got shot? I dont know. Some authors like James Clavell create a world that is very harsh for women, and the attitudes towards women, but somehow they survive and thrive, and take no shit, and thats inspiring considering its much easier now than then. But does it have to be that way in every story? I dont feel it does.
BUT BUT BUT THIS MOTHER FUCKER LOOKED LIKE THESE MOTHERFUCKERSI ain’t paying money to always see one type of person on-screen.
Tolkien should be everyone's shit.I agree. It doesn't take away from the underlying myth. That was my point that I wasn't getting across well. What Tolkien is after is bigger than some of these issues.
But I can appreciate why some folks feel disconnected from them. I get it.... lol, but I'm a white dude who does theology and philosophy so Tolkien is my shit
Using this logic I'm going to stop receiving healthcare at my local hospital as there aren't enough black doctors working there. I'm sure my search for a more diverse hospital won't take long.
BUT BUT BUT THIS MOTHER FUCKER LOOKED LIKE THESE MOTHERFUCKERS
The books were written in the 1950s by an English Beowulf scholar. That context is pretty largely left out of modern Tolkien discussions and further, a child bright enough to comprehend the trilogy would make sense of these things if it was brought to his/her attention.Ah i see what you are saying. Yes,problematic is a word for different people's interpretations...What does an impressionable child think, perhaps when he reads things like this? Its worthy of discussion.
....Isnt that true? They tryin' to tell us that deep inside we all wants to be black!
The best part is the way he sits down after the black guy answers his question ahahaha
westeros is supposed to be britain, but expanded to the size of south america. he said it, its shaped like britain and the wall is hadrians wall but bigger
there are more black people in westeros on the show, than there probably were during medieval times
in their world, sothoryos is supposed to be like africa, and the characters from sothoryos or the surrounding area are black (pic below)
dude sounds dumb, talking about shit he doesnt know about
"There are no black people in 'Game of Thrones.' You don’t see one black person in 'Lord of the Rings'. I ain’t paying money to always see one type of person on-screen. You see different people from different backgrounds, different cultures, every day. Even if you’re a racist, you have to live with that. We can ruffle up some feathers.”
