Probably broke his nose as well, just a nightmare encounter for Joel.

but even then he has 0% TDD, obviously him being comfortable off his back is a big part of that.

Most elite fighters will either smash your guard or comfortably avoid your submissions while maintaining top control, being a guard player isn't the way to go in top level mma, imo

There's a time and place for working the guard, even at the elite level, but that wasn't the time for Alvarez obviously.

sure, but I'm talking about those bjj guys who don't implement offensive/defense wrestling into their formula 0% tdd means you're not even trying to defend takedowns and welcoming every fighter to your guard, it worked very well for Joel till he fought someone with understanding of position and submission defense, till the last second of the first round Joel was looking for a sub instead of staying safe or trying to get up.

To be fair, getting your ribs broken that early is a good way to never fight your way back into the fight.

Pretty damn unlucky.

Yeah, but it will still work well for him against many other guys. Not everyone has the top game of Arman. I agree though, he should have started trying to get up after arman was shut his guard game down. But then again, he apparently had two broken ribs, so he likely couldn't.

I would not say Joel is bad,its just how good Arman is,probably the best prospect right now. Didnt RDA or Fiziev pull out?give it to Arman.

Maybe Joel should have worked his way up from guard instead of trying to look for subs. But that's who he is and how he fights : Kill or be killed. Most would have quit on the spot. His corner tho should have thrown in the towel or stopped the fight in the break. He got more damage in this fight that in his previous 21 fights combined and most was unnecessary.

Joel made weight for the first time in his career and shattered his insides doing it. Bravo.
He only missed weight in two of 22 fights, one was short notice. Tsarukyan also missed weight in a short notice fight and struggles to make the limit.
Regardless, appart from false, it is stupid and pointless to bring this up now, but since you are a borderline mentally challenged hater and only post stupid shit i guess it shouldnt be surprising.
