Media Joe Rogans thoughts on Mike Tyson joining MMA, Do you think he would have done well?

Yeah he would’ve, so long as he didn’t wear boxing gloves like an idiot

They would have had to put boxing gloves on him to protect those fools from getting caught on the tip of the nose and having the bone pushed into the brain.

Mike was a complete genetic freak, I think if he committed to any combat sport he would've had major success though it's a massive hypothetical though but a prime Tyson crossing over to MMA isn't stopping double legs from Randleman, Coleman, Severn, Frye...probably not even Tank or Oleg. Tysons power is vastly overrated, definitely a strong finisher and a power puncher no doubt but there were plenty of guys eating heavy shots from Tyson, they weren't going down from the first heavy shot he landed. There are literally dozens of bigger punchers in terms of raw power than Tyson, he just had insane speed and technique. He would have to continually land hail mary shots like Lewis vs Blaydes, which is a lot easier said than done.

YES, NO Question !
if Tyson had the same type of LIFE coach, (with an MMA rather than Boxing background) he would have had the same impact. He is a true student of the ART of boxing. His ferocity in the ring was unmatched. The savageness he went into the ring with was unbelievable...except IT WAS REAL.

When he bobs and weaves it reminds me of a dog shaking something

Mike Tyson doing a Thai clinch with those legendary uppercuts would’ve been a bad day out for anyone. The real determination would be his ability to grapple, or at the very least defend takedowns well enough.

Mike Tyson would have been Kevin Randleman 6.0 with exceptional standup skills.

He passed the hardest test. Took some serious heat from the GOAT, and showed some natural grappling instincts. Tyson would be great

Mike Tyson is an athletic freak of nature. So it's highly plausible he'd do well. If he trained a couple years on grappling and all the tools that come with MMA.

You could just kinda take this question with any legendary boxer and the answer will really just come down to how well they adapt to other aspects of martial arts like grappling and kick boxing.

There is a particular fascination with Mike which I understand because of his cultural significance to the generation who are now the biggest combat sports audience, but its also a bit weird because he's not even like the consensus best Heeavyweight of his own era.

You could just as easily ask if Lennox or Holyfield had started out in MMA what it would have been like and the conversation is much the same.

His style of boxing and indeed his body type was potentially well suited for MMA if he'd taken it seriously, not sure I can see him doing that though given the difference in pay/status during the 90's especially.
Really? His style of boxing is horrible for MMA. He relied heavily on head movement and ducking down low. It’s a recipe to get kicked in the head ( Leon vs Usman) or kneed in the face ( Frankie vs Sandhagen). He also boxed at a very close range where it would be easy to clinch him up and take him down by someone with a wrestling background.

He would’ve been a tiny HW as well, probably would have to cut to LHW or MW, not to get rag dolled by larger men. And we don’t know how cutting weight would affect his power, chin and cardio.

He carries a lot of muscle as well. I’m pretty sure he would’ve gassed out really fast in if he had to grapple.

Honestly, I don’t think Mike would’ve done well in MMA. Tyson fury would be a problem at HW though. I could see Deontay Wilder doing well at LHW as well

Yes with the right coaching.

He'd do anything to win a fight, as shown against Holyfield's ear.

Tyson was a phenom in boxing because he was an excellent student who followed instructions well under a legendary trainer. His explosiveness was perfect for boxing but MMA is different that requires more versatility, agility, and different martial art backgrounds especially an emphasis in grappling.

Actually I think it’s the opposite, his explosiveness is perfect for MMA rather boxing.

MMA money is chump change compared to boxing, but at least he wouldn't have Don King to steal it.
