News Joe Rogan: UFC, Dana White 'f*cked up' picking slap fighting over kickboxing

Thats a good idea but I got an ever better one. How about we find ppl who have been bullied and pay the bullies 4k to step in the cage with actual pro fighters and see how long they last. We could call it, "Pros beating bullies" or something, idk some food for thought
Bully Beatdown.

Been done.

The sticking part of my idea is that it's 2 normal joes who think they each can whoop the other.

Calling power slap a fight is insulting to anyone whose actually got in any type of ring.

power slap = glorified sucker punch

Fuckin oath dude. I'm down for pretty much any combat sport but it has to be 1:1 and with attack and defence.

It does send a bad message actually, we have a "Stop the coward punch" campaign in Oz, basically around stopping dudes sucker punching other dudes in the street. Street fights are bad of course but sucker punches are even worse.

If they did KB in 6oz gloves, TKO could market the shit out of that. I'm glad they haven't done it, they're already trying to lock down MMA, PW, grappling and boxing.
I think there testing the waters with Karate Combat. But for it to succeed they need to cut out the corny shit (change the name, most people think Karate is gay and outdated) and promote it as legit sport to bring in high-level strikers

Joe Rogan would have liked to see UFC CEO Dana White invest in kickboxing over slap fighting.

White officially launched slap fighting league Power Slap in late 2022, which started off with events at the UFC Apex, and has recently expanded to locations such as Abu Dhabi and Saudi Arabia. White went as far as saying Power Slap would become bigger than the UFC.

Upon the news of White’s involvement with slap fighting, Rogan admitted it’s not his cup of tea. He still stands by that opinion, and thinks White would have been better off going into kickboxing.

“I think the UFC f*cked up when they went with slap fighting,” Rogan said on his Fight Companion for UFC Fight Night 255. “I’ve been telling them forever, ‘You guys should get into kickboxing.’ If you only like standup fights, it’s not like the old days of kickboxing where they were boring. The knockouts are f*cking crazy.

“Kickboxing with MMA gloves in a cage would be giant. Just have a striking-only segment of the UFC. Glory’s got some elite fighters. I watch Glory all the time. It’s f*cking exciting, but nobody’s watching it. Nobody knows who these people are.”

slap fighting = less pay, weaker competition, lower investment, lower risk.

Joe Rogan did great at it, got kicked once in the head, panicked and then went on to be absurdly rich instead!
Maybe he has been afraid of competition?

Rodtang just got paid 450k in his last Kickboxing match for ONE, that's more than most UFC champs.
That's a bad example because ONE is notorious for overpaying and being in debt though.

Could it be a solid investment? Maybe, KB does not have a good history in the American market which is why no one is willing to take a chance to bring it over.

It doesn't beat Power Slap in terms of profit though, you can pay for like a dozen Slap cards with the purse of a single KB title fight. The pay is absolutely atrocious that even if only a handful of UFC fans tune into it Dana is profiting.

The reason why he doesnt go into kickboxing is because it would be generating a rival sport to MMA if he made a popular promotion there.

Power slap is always going to be its own thing. It has no overlap with MMA.
which is why UFC should have incorporated an only stand up division, just like ONE does.

it's weird at first, but having the mix ups of fights on the cards, allows for room to breathe, unexpected KOs, and new fighters to rise. i don't need to see WMMA, or bullshit MMA fights, every card either at the Apex. how cool would a stand up only, in MMA gloves fight be?

UFC should have 100% created just another stand up belt, like ONE does. there is no overlap, but ONE makes it work.

I'd like that myself, but the UFC just doesnt have any incentive to do that. They can just keep putting resources into making MMA more popular, which has been working for the most part over the last couple of decades.

Also, slap fight is Dana White's own thing. The UFC doesn't own it.

good points, didn't know that about slap fight.

He picked a real a sport for men over one where they use padded gloves and do lame kicks and punches.

Sounds like Dana made the right choice.

Gimme me the Dumplin!

Dana saw Slap fights get billion views on Facebook and thought he could monetize it. But people don't care enough to actually invest their time and money into it outside of a 15 second scroll though.

He doesn't understand modern metrics. Social media platforms count a 1 second scroll you make of a vid that's been pushed to you by the algorithm as a "view".

So yeah they get millions of "views", Dana thought or maybe still thinks, that's the equivalent of actual broadcast ratings you see from televised NFL, NBA, soccer, actual televised sports games.

That's why he said the retarded things about Powerslap being the most viewed sport at one point.

The money is probably in bareknuckle or influencer boxing. Dana could have done a better job than the influencers in that game. Bareknuckle is easy because it's pretty much retired MMA fighters. Influencer boxing is another easy thing. Those influencers can carry the promotion.

Influencer boxing is almost dead. It's just Jake Paul left at this point. KSI just pulled out of a fight against Dillon freaking Danis.

It peaked during the pandemic when there were literally no other sports on besides that and UFC apex cards.
