Joe Rogan finally reveals why he didn't become a fighter

that's exactly what he said. he also added that he had, "terrible hands" and would get lit up in sparring often, and began getting bad headaches so stopped. still loves to pretend like he was a fighter once.

To be fair to Joe, this is how it goes for the overwhelming majority of gymbro's in fight gyms including myself. Even when you're young and you have ideas about trying it out, you're still faced with the reality of what Joe just described in the video in the OP. Which is that you can very badly hurt and humiliated.

There's no faking it in fighting even if you adopt a style where you're moving away from the opponent at all cost. People don't like to get hit in the face, it goes against human instinct. The damage to the nose, eyes, mouth, not to mention the rest of your body. It takes a special kind of person who can take it and also dish it out(That's another thing. Hurting somebody you don't hate) and most of us don't have "it". Joe didn't have it either.

People like Joe get weeded out(no pun intended) pretty quickly.

He just talked about damn near killing a dude and you conclude Joe lacked killer instinct.

He never inteded to become a fighter, he just trained (and wasn't he a notorious gym bully?). He just loves to talk shit.

I addressed that. He said he got freaked out. Many guys find out that they don't like hurting another human being.

More importantly, it's about taking it. He sounds like he could dish it out at first but certainly not take it.

I cringe every time i hear him talking about back when he "used to fight." Dude did Tae kwon do, which is not kickboxing like he tries to paint it as.... it's just light contact point sparring. And people that actually did TKD like myself know that that 1 single ko kick he likes to show ....he almost certainly was disqualified for excessive contact for that. Because you're not supposed to do shit that hard in those tournaments.

And speaking of that clip.....why is that literally the only clip of joe competing in tkd? He says that's all he did for years, just train and compete. So where's ANY of that stuff at?

What joe is doing is like stealing valor. He's a valor thief.

He never got out of that stretcher.

Are you supposed to be placed on a stretcher and then get back Up and walk to the hospital?
Mick Foley did that all the time. I'm convinced stretchers are just a prop to make people feel bad for others, and give a guy an excuse to lay down for a bit. A real lazy mans cope. Joe wouldn't be caught dead on a stretcher.

He has talked about this countless times on JRE over the years. While participating in TKD competition, he saw people getting KO'd all the time and he experienced headaches himself, and realized he didn't want to do more damage to his brain.

He really does like to paint competitive TKD as if it's deadly Kumite or something. This is a man who was awarded a black belt in BJJ and as far as I can tell, has never competed in grappling. There's nothing wrong with not wanting to be an MMA fighter. Hell; I realized I wanted nothing to do with any form of striking competition after training MT for a few months and getting my bell rung in practice. But at least I competed in NAGA and USG as a blue belt.

My issue with Joe is that he tries to present himself as some kind of martial arts competitor when he's talking to professional fighters, as if he's on equal footing, when he's really more of a hobbyist/fan. GSP being the nice guy that he is went way overboard while being complimentary of Joe's turning side kick, so here we are. GSP validated Joe as a martial artist and now people wont shut up about it. It also helps that GSP is also a TMA guy, so naturally, he's going to geek out over TKD with Joe.

I haven't listened to the JRE for years, but even back then (6-7 years ago?) Rogan was pretty "humble" about him not wanting to be a fighter and recognozing his shortcomings. Short LOL HA HA, cue Rogan being short.

I don't like Rogan, I'm pretty much the opposite of him when it comes to politics and conspiracy theories, but as far as what I gather from having listened to A LOT of JRE in the past, he's always been pretty clear about him not being a fighter.

Does he brag about his TKD and his fighting skills? Not really. Not more so than anyone would, having the accolades that he does have after all.

As fun as it is to dunk on Joe, his reasoning in the video isn't that he was scared of killing people, but scared of being killed.
It's right there at the end of the clip yet all comments except Yours seem to have missed it...
