I think in boxing today "retiring" is just a leveraging scheme... and also a fairly good marketing ploy. His "coming out of retirement" fight to regain his belt will be a PPV hit.

Its similar to declaring bankruptcy in boxing, it means nothing ... you can clear your debts, then one more fight and you're rich again.

To be honest I haven't seen much of him. He beat Lacy (overrated), Hopkins (old), and Jones(old). He's not in the same league as Mayweather as undefeated retired champion.

'Don't be silly' yourself, here in the UK he's probably had more pressure to fight Carl Froch. Neither fight is particularly attractive, beating Dawson could do something for Calzaghe's legacy in the long term if he goes onto be succesful. But that's the same thing as the Lacy and Kessler fights. Dawson came to the party a little too late, that's all there is to it - it's not a big enough fight at this time. Get over it, just like your boy Chad has. He released a statement when Joe announced his retirement that demonstrated a lot more class than most people in this thread.

Dawson's a good fighter, he poses a lot of problems cause of his size and stance but yeh if he faced Joe I think Calzaghe would dominate from the mid to late rounds and win a comfortable decision. People are definitely over-hyping Dawson as far as a fight with Joe goes, Dawson's just starting his career at the top & he arguably lost his fight before last against Johnson. I think he could go onto have a very good career but right now the fight really doesn't mean much.............. Dawson would dominate Froch though, especially at LHW Froch wouldn't want any part of that.
