Joe Calzaghe Announces Retirement

Jones was never the benefactor of a hometown decision or officiating. Dariusz was, so there's no fasis for your theory.

Dariusz's only meaningful win is over Virgil Hill.

With the beating he took from easy Jones victim Richard Hall you think Jones was scared of Dariusz? Thats dellusional.

I think jones would have beat him but it's not the point, jones was given many oppurtunities to fight various names yet he didn't,play it into his favour all you like but that certainly aint no coincidence

it's laughable that people defend him on this it's like they don't remember what everyone was criticising him for 10 years ago

he made out like he wanted to fight tyson and lewis and he ended up with ruiz

best of the 90's my arse

jones ducked, dived and avoided any big puncher after Gerald McClellan he never tested himself until it was too late

the fact that people pimp up his win against hopkins is only because of how good hopkins became

Who exactly did he duck? He didn't duck Dariusz. He didn't duck Bernard, he only wanted 60% of the gate against an unproven draw whom he'd already beaten. He beat James Toney handily who could punch, fairly well at that. Who did he duck? Who was there for him to fight that he avoided?

Congrats.......on the most sheltered record.

If the argument is Dawson is not a big draw then what does that say for him not fighting Bute?
Bute can pull all of Canada as I am sure they would love to see him fight "The Pride of Wales".

I compared Calzaghe to Jones for a reason. Jones's competition was always subject to disapproval, but compared to Calzaghe, he was Muhammad Ali.

Eubank was an old man and Collins wasn't very good even at his best. He was a punching bag who Benn couldn't out tough, and other than Benn lost to the best fighters he fought in McCallum, Kalambay, and Johnson.

I agree

Eubank would of murdered Calzaghe in his prime. Even to this day Calzaghe rates that as his toughest fight ever. Eubanks was well past it at that point. I'd rather see Eubanks or Benn in the hall of fame than Joe the ducker Calzaghe

I'll give him credit for beating two #1 ranked fighters in two weight divisions (Hopkins and Kessler), but other than that don't let the door hit ya where the good lord split ya, Joe!

And just in case anyone was wondering, Marciano > Calzaghe

And for the record, the greatest British fighter ever was Jimmy Wilde, followed by Bob Fitzsimmons. Calzaghe doesn't compare to those two.

And Fitz was smart enough to declare American citizenship.

Calzaghe doesn't compare to Lennox either.

I wouldn't rank him above Buchanan, let alone Lewis. I'd say he's about equal with Hamed.

Then if he beats Dawson, should they do another one called Ducking Pavlik? Then maybe Ducking Froch?

Point being, there will always be someone else no matter when he retires.

Well, he could have at least fought one of the guys on the "duck" list (Pavlik, Dawson, whoever) instead of fighting a shot Roy Jones. I know I wasn't clamoring for that one, and PPV numbers indicate not many were.

There was no fight out there for him that would do anything to further his legacy

I'm glad that the majority of the people here agree that calzaghe wasn't that good.
