I would say that Federal worker cuts are obviously the direct result of the administration though.

For example Clinton gets credit for balancing the budget by liberals but part of the reason he did so was because Democrats lost the House for the first time in 40 years in his first midterm and so the Republican House under Gingrich pushed for a balanced budget as well as welfare reform. Would Clinton have been as fiscally conservative if Democrats didn't lose the House? Doubtful imo.

Or an opposite example would be the job losses in 2020 during Trump's first term. I think Trump is a dogshot POTUS but there was no avoiding job losses during COVID so while I think he mishandled the pandemic generally I wouldn't blame Trump for the job numbers in that time.

That said this time around Trump is doing concrete things that hurt the economy. There's the federal lay offs you mentioned which hit since communities harder than others but I also think the trade war and immigration crackdown aren't helping either.

The Fed lowering rates in 2020 so much is what has real estate stuck now. People are underwater on car loans because of the stupid inflation caused by supply chain constraints during COVID. Now repos are high af or no one wants to buy cars if they're going to have to roll negative equity into a new car loan.

Student loan repayment coming back doesn't help either with spending.

Its a culmination of things. I'm not saying the current or previous administrations don't bear some responsibility, but ultimately I think we're still in the hangover stage of COVID excess. It's like we're in a deadlock and something has to give. The job market is starting to crack. The only reason the stock market is as high as it is because of AI spending. If that bubble bursts soon thats when shit really goes south. Right now it really isn't if either... Considering how unprofitable AI ventures are
