Joaquin Buckley works at Walgreens

Shocker, a guy who debuted this year and lost his first fight didn't drop everything at the first sign of success.
The guy is 3 fights into his UFC career with a record of 2-1... you guys expect him to be a millionaire?

Do any of you understand how business works?

Sherdoggers expecting 20 million dollar contracts for only 3 fights. This isn’t NBA, Futbol, MLB, NFL or NHL. MMA is newer than all those sports plus the revenue those other sports get from TV deals/sponsors is 10x more than MMA will ever get.

That’s a fucking shame. You are responsible for the greatest KO of the year in the premiere professional MMA promotion and you still have to work at fucking Walgreens. Guy just had a baby in August and since August has body bagged 2 previously undefeated fighters in exciting fashion.

The fact that UFC pays 10-18% of their revenue to fighters is fucking disgusting. Every other major sport pays close to 50/50 split, including boxing.
Tennis and golf don’t pay near 50%. Their majors pay well under 20%.

Indeed its quite tiresome to constantly see the same complaints over and over again, most of these sports teams are worth MORE than the UFC period, of course they can afford to pay their athletes far more...

The ufc can also “afford” to pay more.

Pay isn’t only dictated by what you can “afford” of course.

A bigger takeaway from above video than Joaquin working at Walgreen's is Joaquin's underhanded threat to assault James Krause if they should ever cross paths. I'd like to think he's not dumb enough to potentially destroy a very promising UFC career by doing that. His threat in above video is another good reason to make that fight though. The numbers just went up.

He made well over 100k the last 5 weeks alone. He doesn't need to work at walgreens
He has to pay trainers, sparing partners, gym fees etc. No he hasn’t made over $100k and even if he did how does he cover health care and other expenses. Some of you might be able to live in your moms basement with your paper route money but in the real world making a $100k in 5 weeks doesn’t mean you quit your job and you’re rich. Oh yeah and taxes, the government wants their cut.

UFC isn't a career. It's an opportunity.

Goof is a greedy idiot. Buckley will never crack 20/20 and some Venum gear.

Not only that MMA fans are oblivous to what other sports leagues pay there entry level players.

One of my co-workers played 4 years D-1 (with most of his games being on national TV), got drafted in the NFL and only made it 3 years (2 of which was a low salary practice squad salary). His athletic profile/achievement was greater than 95% of UFC fighters and yet he made basically the same amount of money as most of them all while playing in a sport that has over 25x the revenue......

There's tennis, golf, and MLB players that win freaking national titles/get drafted and are making less than UFC salaries....... (some of which are ranked top 500 in the world at there sport)

It’s a situational thing since he’s so new into UFC so he couldn’t have amassed enough wealth anyway.
However there should be no doubt ufc is a very underpaying organization and mma as sport is very underpaying. There is a reason Hollywood and wme types were willing to Pay billions for this business model the slavery type structure makes its potentially highly profitable for the owners

He's probably fought three times for 12/12 and won two 50k bonuses so he's done okay this year. He'll have one fight left on his likely initial 4 fight deal, so given that he's got a bit of momentum behind him I'd imagine he gets bumped to at least 28/28.

Ok lets be fair here is it a shame? Yes it is. But unless his family is really going trough a bad situation and he needs as much money as possible he probably didn't have to do that, my bet is that he's a smart guy and knows the fighting carrer doesn't last forever ( as he said he wants to start a business ) so probably just trying to deversified his gains. That said yes the ufc pay is shit

I wonder if that’s considered a “career” to the bald goof?
