jiu-jitsu "KANJI" ?

whatever you do, just make sure you have someone who knows chinese to take a good look at the design before you get it inked. also, if you want "brazilian jiujitsu" in chinese there will be FOUR characters. i don't know who these people are saying there is no kanji for brazil. another thing, there are two types of written chinese, simplified and "complex". make sure you get the complex version. another thing, make sure the characters are all in the same font. it'd look aweful if they are in 4 different fonts.

go here and look up brazil http://www.zhongwen.com/

Why not be original and tattoo the actual word "jiu-jitsu"

This would be a splendid idea.

Firstly, we were talking about JAPANESE.

Secondly, I never said there was no kanji for Brazil, only that Brazil is commonly written in katakana in Japan (to the extent that I'm guessing most Japanese wouldn't know the full kanji form of Brazil). I also posted an example from my Japanese BJJ club's website to back up my claim.

From what I am told, the kanji for Jujitsu is also the kanji for Yawara.

The first kanji is used in the word "yawarakai" meaning soft, flexible.

yea, but he is talking about Kanji, and kanji IS chinese. Kanji is Japanese for "Han characters". Han, being a Dynasty in Ancient china. if he wanted to get brazilian jiujitsu in japanese, that's a different matter, but he wanted to get it in Kanji(chinese characters).

i mean, whether or not it's original, it's really not the point, he wants to get it, lets just hope he finds someone who knows what they are doing. i've seem some horrible Kanji tatoos that either doesn't make any sense, written wrong, missing strokes, completely backwards, or doesn't mean what the person think it means.

be honest... do you have either a tribal or barb wire tattoo to begin with?

Thanks for the lesson.

If you look at this pic you can see Brazilian Ju Jitsu written in Japanese in red on the right in the middle of the picture (on top of the large black characters). Some of you might not have been able to see the characters on the page I posted.

I'd actually be interested to see how Chinese people write BJJ. If anyone wants to post an image we could compare.

GSP has the kanji for ju jitsu tattooed on his chest.

On a side note, my Japanese gf says kanji tattoos are uncool, but to be fair she's not really the tattoo type.
