Most of the Bareknuckle fights we have been able to see are either really old, or just stand up in recent years, but with Gamebred getting bareknuckle MMA on the scene again recently I got excited about the possibilities of growth in groundfighting and grappling tactics.

People tend to severely underestimate just how much gloves favor a less technical fighter all around, but especially on the ground. Anyone been watching the BKMMA events? Mostly strikers right now, but I expect to see an influx of solid grapplers as it gains popularity. Nicky Rod has even expressed interest recently.

Search on YouTube "King of the streets"
Ive seen it. I prefer Gamebred BKMMA for a umber of reasons, but mainly it’s that I think King of the Streets isn’t going to last because of the hard surface. People die all the time in street fights from second impact syndrome due to getting KO’d on a hard surface. I actually fought on Gamebred last week then coached like 5 guys after getting stitched up. I’m not sure I would want to fight on concrete unless the pay was incredible. Lol

I don't understand how MMA isn't enough.

I don't love violence, I've always loved MMA for the techniques and science behind it.

But it's more than enough action, more than enough violence and more than enough risks for the fighters

For sure guys will be less skilled and with a lot less game planning and strategies than what you would see in high level MMA. So more KOs, more visible domination from one side...

Why do we want more cuts, more broken hands, more blood...

Gloved MMA under unified rules is terrible for grapplers. Cuts are more common, but broken hands happen pretty close to equal in both gloved and Bareknuckle mma. Hands get minor injuries and pain more from people throwing wrecklessly with poor technique in BK, which makes the striking more technical imo. In gloves you can throw wild and not hurt your hands or have to deal with swelling hands when you hit bad targets, and this encourages less technical brawling. Think about it like this; if you have to hit a tree with a glove you can just pretty much hit it, but without a glove you're going to hit it with less power and aim for a nice smooth looking weak spot.

My biggest reason for preferring BK is the grappling aspect. I hate fighting in gloves because everyone tries to grab and trap them and slow down the ground fight. You can’t do that in BK so easy. It’s precisely the opposite of your claim. BK will be more technical with more gameplanning as the less technical athletes that use the equipment as a crutch to compensate for poor technique won’t be able to do that any longer.

Forgive me, my experience is solely in gloved mma and bare knuckle boxing, but how can this be true? Are there stats to back this up?

It's funny, I remember when Vitor won the LHW belt by cutting Randy's eye with the stitching from his gloves my dad, who was an OG tough guy but not a trained fighter, saying that gloves were going to ruin the sport for the same reasons you laid out. He wanted it as close to reality as possible.

I'm looking forward to seeing the return of Vale Tudo.

Honestly I think 5 mins rounds are more unfavorable to grapplers (and especially submission specialists) than gloves.

Can you elaborate? As a coach I know my jits wizards are always going to struggle in amateur fights bc by the time they get the fight to the mat and settle into a good position they’ve only got 90 seconds left to work.

I mean you hit the nail on the head with that explanation. Rounds = free standing reset. GSP even made a comment about it before, he said he knows he was criticized for not getting a lot of finishes but pointed out he fought a ton of very good wrestlers and by the time he'd land a takedown he'd only have like 2 mins left to work. That's 2 mins to pass gaurs, secure position, then set up and finish a sub.
