It's quite a bit beyond "tasteless", it's a continued threat, vandalizing memorials, tagging his wife to mock her, posting names of other public figures they'd like to be murdered, and JK Rowling for some reason, and somebody was just arrested this afternoon for dressing up as a cop to sneak into the stadium with a gun to shoot up tomorrow's memorial.

Okay, different levels of bad. Joking still is bad in my book but obviously quite a few tiers below terrorism/ murder.

Scary, but seems like he wasn't planning to shoot it up.

From NY Times:

After Mr. Runkles’s arrest was reported on Saturday, a spokesman for Mr. Kirk’s group, Turning Point USA, said on social media that the man had been doing “advance security” work for a guest planning to attend the service.

The spokesman, Andrew Kolvet, said the man had not properly coordinated with Turning Point or with the Secret Service. But Mr. Kolvet added: “We do not believe this person was attempting anything nefarious.” He declined to identify the guest associated with the man doing security work.

I don't think it's right that he got canceled but I also don't think it was right when a lot of conservatives got canceled. The left is getting a taste of their own medicine right now. I guess it's fair in that aspect but I don't like anything about cancel culture.
If we are talking just cancel culture meaning no government involvement, it’s a little bit in my other post but if people just stop listening to someone, they aren’t cancelled, they just aren’t interesting and failed to keep an audience. Cancel culture is deplatforming and taking the product away from an audience who is still there due to caving to those who are unhappy it exists. This stuff gets really case by case imo because it is cultural but the more time goes on, the more and more impossible it becomes to truly stifle speech thanks to the tech boom bringing most media to the internet vs these older forms of radio and broadcasting. What I worry about is people quoting fcc guidelines or regulations and thinking this is completely normal to do. And moreso, will they just be okay with a revamp of section 230 where I assure you, politicians and partisan political junkies will completely fuck up the internet as we know it. Kimmel is a small event but one that can open large consequences and permission structures

Not sure if that held up. That was his claim, but the Arizona DPS said he is not affiliated with any authorized law enforcement like he claimed and has been charged with impersonating an officer and carrying a weapon in a prohibited area. They're still investigating, so we'll see how it ends up, but he had mulitple guns and a knife, and it's a little hard to imagine that anybody thought they could hire a semi homeless looking guy to do "advanced security" in the middle of a secret service sweep, let alone just showing up with multiple weapons to do it on his own without coordinating with of the existing law enforcement.

He was charged because he had weird IDs on him and the weapons.. but he was released on bond already.

Surely they wouldn't let a threat to the event out of jail already.

I don’t know if arguing over “cheered” is worth it but there were plenty of jokes going on in there about it being his gay lover. Not just observations about how “weird” it was. Let’s say the whole ct he was having some affair wasn’t true for just a second. If so, we had some guy try to attack a high ranking politician in their house and when they failed, struck their husband with a hammer. Imagine if that was your family and people online decided to get around the political inconvenience of the situation (which in itself is stupid, just say the attacker is bad, he doesn’t represent the GOP, and move on) by making some ct about your husband having a gay affair and joking around about it. It’s much more fucked than what you’re presenting it as. And I’m not targeting you here as I don’t really remember you in the thread but I sure remember some bs jokes flying around while the guy was recovering from the attack.
People not on here cheered his death on social media. I don't know if that's normal these days but yes people cheered his death.

Kirk or Pelosi or both? Either way, yes, I’ve seen it on social media. I don’t know how people are really suppose to deal with that aspect. They aren’t the actual elected officials and we also don’t always know how much of it is real or sincere. Of course some is but I just don’t see any reason for my political views to change cause John Dumbfucks Facebook status is “well deserved” or some garbage like that.

the Nostradamus convo might go farther back than I read but my post wasn’t an attempt to really connect the two things together. I just wanted to point out ugly things happened in that thread. I can’t remember if I was modding at the time or not but you can see with the multiple mod warning posts in it, people were saying nasty shit.

For Kimmel, I don’t think his line was all that bad but I also don’t have an issue if it outrages other people and leads to some reprimanding but I’m far more lenient on what someone says and would just stop watching if I no longer think their worth it. I dropped off JRE this year for example. Ultimately, people’s attention and time is a commodity in this day and age. People can try to deplatform people but ultimately, they won’t go away unless enough people just stop tuning in.

For this situation, I wouldn’t even be in this thread if the FCC didn’t get involved. It’s completely unacceptable for them to step in about something like this. I don’t think Kimmel has a fullproof case but do believe he should sue the government over this and at least attempt some discovery and a shot at taking it to SCOTUS. For the larger picture of this, you have that interview of Trump saying other licenses should be pulled because he’s covered negatively. That’s just garbage. The president shouldn’t be extorting media to shift their coverage because he doesn’t like it. He shouldn’t be suing them for monetary damages either, that’s unprecedented and completely illiberal coming from a president.

I agree with trump and the fcc in regard to this tho. I posted Carr from a year ago saying as such.

But again, back to ABC, someone line stephanolopos calling him a convicted rapist is simply not true. They are slandering Trump on public airways, which is not in the public interest.

Giving false information about this murder is not in the public interest, especially doubling down as per reports.

YouTube/Joe Rogan is not under the fcc. ABC is.

Don jr tweets aren’t regulated by the fcc, Kimmel on abc airwaves are.

If you look at the clip I posted, he makes perfect point that in some cases, people may only have an antenna and/or basical cable with no internet access, and may only have access to ABC and Jimmy Kimmel, no access to JRE and such. No access to internet, despite the failed Biden project to give internet to these people.

That is why the being a partisan hack is OK for a private podcast or private channel, but these are public airwaves.

Especially when considering the assassin may have had a network and other people working with him, who may be out there and dangerous, and to completely dismiss the unfolding narrative and blame it on the shooters parents and MAGA is just irresponsible

So does that mean fox news is getting taken off the air immediately?

Cable tv isn’t broadcast.

Exactly. There are very apparent rumours that Disney is in talks to have Kimmel return. But I assume it will not be on ABC.

Disney is not the local affiliates who keep losing ratings. Disney can make money of something on their private outlets. And so be it. Their stock also still almost half down since before the whole Desantis debacle. That is capitalism manifest, and let it work itself out

It seems not a single leftist on here even knows that cable channels aren't regulated by the FCC. You're like the 10th one to post "but Faux news, maaan". Cable channels are not transmitted over public airwaves, they are transmitted over private cables, which is why they are called "cable" channels.

The meltdown from the left that's going to happen when 100,000 people show up for Charlie's funeral, with millions watching virtually, is going to be glorious.

I just hope there aren't any more demented freaks who think a funeral is the right time to try to add another body to their side.

Not to mention Fox News and all their outlets like WSJ, NYPost, are owned by foreigners and they all hate Trump

I think most people are aware of that. It's just tricky because Fox intentionally avoids the issue by having Fox broadcast network, and Fox News (cable). I can see why people would be confused by that.

There almost certainly will be.

So every single word and sentence has to be parsed to determine if it serves the incredible subjective vague standard of 'serving public interest'? You understand how ridiculous that is right? Under that standard every show could be taken down.

I'm pretty sure comedians being allowed to criticize the president IS in the public interest. Nobody was slandering Trump, you pathetic weaklings just can't handle being roasted but love to dish it out.
