Jessica Andrade's Downfall Is Somewhat Baffling To Me

When she just went after if and threw caution to the wind she was a better fighter
I don’t see her turning this around

Her being super aggressive is what's made her lose more if anything

I actually think it’s 70% circumstantial and 30% focus and/or mileage or decline.

The best version of Andrade probably doesn’t beat Suarez or Blanchfield regardless. Then when you add in fight frequency, poor match-ups across divisions, and her motivation, I think most of her performance is explained.

If she can stay on her feet, she should beat Dern—unless her chin really is shot.

Only if the bullrush still works but I doubt it.
Andrade has always seemed a mini wanderlei to me, but with less technique.

Dern's early UFC bouts showed me that she can pack a wallop, but that was with scruffy ability. She has grown sharper and sharper. I like to think that she will sting Andrade and use the opening to take a choke.

she can really only fight one way and it's not a complicated style. people say she got better when she faced Rose the 2nd time but i think she was just more patient vs someone who isn't an aggressive power striker and has a problem checking low kicks. her problem is this, she's too small. the way she fights would be great if she was more rangy or bigger for her divisions but she's so short. if she was more mobile or threw more combinations she'd be way harder to beat. with her power she should be sleeping people left and right, Ngannou style but it's just those 2 things, she's too slow and/or doesn't throw enough to give her a real chance to close the show.

otherwise, if she was just 5'9 instead of 5'2 her style, as is, would be very dangerous.

I think a lot of it just the matchups with Andrade.

if you look at most of her wins, they're pretty much all against girls who were either not that great, or just easy for her to dominate physically.

In her last 6 she won 3 and then lost 3 badly. That looks real bad and makes it seem like she's really declining, but look at the opponents. The wins were against Calvillo and Murphy, who are cans, and Lemos, who is okay, but Andrade was able to exploit her early.

Then she fought 2 grapplers who were too strong for her, and Yan, who hits harder than she does.

She doesn't care about winning. She's fighting for the paycheck. I was also baffled earlier this year, and she finally admitted that she was fighting to pay for her divorce.

She took on tough fights without a break. She hardly cares if she loses. Maybe she has different feelings now that the divorce is over, but who knows.

I mean... how much money is that? She made a lot of money in UFC, and outside of UFC (lol), but in her interviews she is ALWAYS talks about needs of money. It starts long before divorce. Maybe she needs financial advisor, and not another fight?

I guess she never signed a prenup and she's the provider in the relationship. Also having to pay for lawyers.

I think she is just taking short notice fights without a care. I believe she moved to Vegas along with her coach. Stuff is expensive and they need to cover the cost.

A year ago I definitely would not favor MacKenzie Dern to beat Andrade, but she just seems to be finding ways to lose in every fight she's in recently. Like she's regressed and has forgotten everything she's learned throughout the years. She just goes out there, fights like a dumbass, and gets her ass kicked.

I thought this, to be honest.

I've picked Andrade because if she enacts a proper game plan she has to be the favourite... but she's been badly off form.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if Dern just breezes through her, but if there's anything left of Jessica Andrade, she should have enough here.

She’s been in the UFC for 10 years, and now there’s a new crop of genuine talent who are her contemporaries. Her style doesn’t work as well outside of certain favorable matchups.

She dusted an old Lauren Murphy then faced elite Blanchfield at flyweight, then three real contenders at strawweight back to back in a year.

However, it was egregious they put Amanda Lemos higher in the rankings and gave her a title shot right after Andrade standing arm triangle choked her out, the only such submission in the promotions history.

I don't follow WMMA that much, but wasn't that always her strategy? Except, in the past, she would pick up some of her opponents and drop them on their head to win.
