Jesse Williams speech

Some parts of his speech I agreed on 100 percent...

Tamir Rice shooting was fucked up...

I also liked how he left out Mike brown on the long list of blacks killed by authorities.

But other parts were like wtf!?!?

How can you mad at white people for adopting aspects of black culture when black entertainment/culture is marketed as hip, cool, and "in?"

This isn't cultural appropriation, it's capitalism.

I think you need to recheck the Tamir Rice thing. He was pulling a gun on people and he looked like an adult.

Just because the gun wasn't "real" doesn't change the fact that it looked 100% real and he was terrorizing people at the park.

Do you have children? I do, and I will raise them to know that you can never pull realistic guns on people to scare the shit out of them. That is horrible behavior and extremely dangerous behavior. It is also illegal. I mean, the cops had reports of someone pulling a gun on people and he clearly went for his "gun" when the cops rolled up.

Justified shooting. Too bad Tamir had shit parents. They are to blame for his death.

I think by entertaining this objection you're already losing the logical battle. It's irrelevant if this particular case was just or unjust, as it doesn't prove the narrative against white people. This is one incident of possible police misconduct. Just because Rice was black doesn't mean anything in the big picture.

A stat that proves that black people are being discriminated against by police trumps any anecdotal evidence. There's no need to debate anything anecdotal as if you can draw any sweeping conclusions from it.

For the record, this shooting did seem dubious. Why would you drive up on some guy with a gun?

you raise some valid points, but my primary issue was with how the police rolled up on him, like right next to him.

Is that standard police procedure? (to any of the officers here)

I dont' shed tears for Eric Garner,

and fuck Mike Brown, and Mario woods. (and fuck all you SJWs and liberals who supported this bullshit narrative)

but as a Kid, I remember playing with guns...granted I would never point them at police, but this was a tragedy that could have easily been averted.

Police are more likely to shoot a white suspect than a black one. It has been proven.

When whites get murdered by cops nobody cares.

Yes that tragedy could have easily been averted... with decent parenting.

Right, and this is what you should argue as opposed to some anecdotal case. Tamir Rice's death has no implications.

Why was Timberlake attacked? Because he's white? Williams isn't even 50 percent black himself.. he's half Swedish and part Seminole Indian.

Didn't know he was Seminole . . . interesting.

I know quite a few mixed guys and gals, and most treated their mom poorly.

In no way am I saying they all do, since it's only my experiences. Most likely due to living in the south more than anything, since I will admit the quality of persons seems to drop down there.

Still, it amazes me seeing them talk to their mom like shit, and she would be the only one around.

For only certain folks in the south for across the board from your experience?

My experience with it is limited to the south, and all of them acted like that, except for the daughters

Interesting. In my experiences if you talked back or bad about to momma you got smacked.

I think his speech was perfectly fine and the backlash here just speaks to the victimhood mentality on this board.

99% of his speech was about telling his audience to take more control of their image, their lives and their communities. That regardless of social circumstances they have a responsibility to themselves. Which is pretty much what people on here constantly complain about except with different language.

Yet because he couched his language in terms of empowerment instead of the more demeaning language you find here, people are criticitizing the underlying message.
It shows the incongruity in how people expect their own communities to be talked to and criticized with how they want other communities to conduct their dialogue. Most people here are tired of the self flagellating white liberal who can only speak of whites as the devil and who bow to non-whites and non-Westerners. They rightly see that this form of discourse is not going to affect change where its needed; among whites.

But when it comes to other communities, whether its blacks or Muslims or what have you, only those who have a message that denigrates their own community to the benefit of the other, whether its whites or Westerners, are held up as a positive voice for change. To be considered sincere agents of positive change they must denigrate their own and prostrate to the preferred out group and they can not commit the sin of couching their message in a way that is empowering to their own community.

I'm sure all the posters who complain about political correctness are going to be furious about this attempt to silence "offensive" opinions.
As much as I thought his speech was BS, he still has a right to his views, and those nancys should be ashamed of themselves for this petition.

While I agree, every time I have objected to this trend, I've been met with the universal chant that "employers have the right to employ who they want and can rightfully dismiss anyone they perceive as being bad for business."

What Progressives need to understand is that if you champion this type of society, you will find yourself at the mercy of your own rules.

That's certainly true. Doesn't mean that people have to like it, though.

What Progressives need to understand is that if you champion this type of society, you will find yourself at the mercy of your own rules.

Regressives and Reactionaries need to understand the same thing. What goes around comes around.

Agreed. Conservative sjw's are really no better than their counterparts on the left.
