Jesse Williams speech

I do not see how a young impressionable youth living in an unstable home and a bad community with no real future is not influenced by a rapper he sees on the internet with money, surrounded by women and going on about dealing drugs, pimping bitches and killing weak-ass ni**as.
And if it wasn't music, it would be something else, since they are kids. How far down this rabbit hole are you willing to go?

Jesse Williams is one crime away from being considered as white as George Zimmerman.

I agree the music is not entirely to blame because the entitlement and victim culture that plagues troubled black communities is far too strong, but I do not see where the majority of rap music has any benefit outside of reinforcing the negative aspects of so-called black culture.

It's obvious that the music is only part (and symptom) of a sub-culture that glorifies crime. While banning a type of music is untenable, it shouldn't mean we can't recognize it for what it is.

Post of the year candidate. Holy shit, I think Barman has like 3 of my 6 noms or some shit this year.

Never said otherwise, but wanting rap to be something it is t, just isn't reality.
I call out how bad it is all the time, but I listen to horrible crap to some people too, but it didn't mess me up. I just think blaming art on all this is nonsense. It's lack of family and lack of education that cause 90% of the problems I have seen in shitty communities.

I believe pop-culture influences people far more than most care to admit. It influences attitudes, behavior, language, politics, how people dress, the pets they buy, the products they purchase, and so on. Look at how much a young girl changes after reading a few issues of Cosmopolitan magazine. There is a reason politicians recruit celebrities to endorse their political campaigns.

Nah, it's just proof social justice doesn't work.

I think its prove SJW definition of multiculturalism would not work.

the real multiculturalism or what i call multi ethnic, is when people from different ethnic and culture can live together and combining their culture.

the real supporter of multiculturalism would embrace people taking from each different culture, with or without recognition.

I agree with your comment on lack of family and education. I think broken families is by far the largest problem and when the family is broken down, kids are far more susceptible to negative outside influences especially rappers.

I agree that it's not the root of the problem. If it was that easy, it would be a quick fix.

I agree, but what can be done other than espouse personal responsibility? Sanitize the world for the kids? That won't happen. Just can't see a fix to it. Kids are kids, and will forever be shaped by rebellious messaging, regardless of its origins.

Yeah, but music is only one element that composes pop culture, and at some point it becomes difficult to differentiate the cause from the effect. I agree that culture influences people, that much is axiomatic, but I don't think we can pin it on gangster rap.

Also, here's a throwback:

You make a strong point. It is not reasonable to think it is possible to magically erase everything that is a bad influence. Ultimately, it comes down to promoting personal responsibility and people doing their best to raise their children properly and even then people will still do terrible things to each other.

Make it less about how you are being limited by shadowy figures looking in the dark, and show more success stories of people who would not allow themselves to be failures. I have a problem more with this loser/victim mentality that is being pushed by ALL media, than any type of individual music.

I think his speech was perfectly fine and the backlash here just speaks to the victimhood mentality on this board.

99% of his speech was about telling his audience to take more control of their image, their lives and their communities. That regardless of social circumstances they have a responsibility to themselves. Which is pretty much what people on here constantly complain about except with different language.

Yet because he couched his language in terms of empowerment instead of the more demeaning language you find here, people are criticitizing the underlying message.

the underlying message that when white people imitate black "cultures" is a bad thing, even though most black people enjoy "white" culture as well.

the underlying message that when Black dudes spent money on stuff white people sell, its white people stealing "blacks" dollars.

if his underlying message is that Police "brutality" is a problem, i have no problem with that, but using the same sentiment and message that Black Supermacist expose isn't helping your message.

Until I did my research on Jesse Williams I just thought he was another self hating white dude. Come to find out I'm only half right, go figure.

I didn't click on the link but just reading some of these replies is enough to let me know I should back out of this LGBT race mixed hurt feelings safe space everybody's the same thread...

The dude only appears to have a pinky toe black in him and he is more white than anything else. His Mother is 100% white (Sweedish) and his Dad has Seminole, African, and obviously white blood in him. Here is a picture of his father and him.
