Those guys at IHP seem to have put together an awesome program for him. Wish we had some places like that here in Alabama to train, I'd love to train with experts like that. Yeah, it's alot like Ross' stuff...I wonder if any Pro fighters use his workouts?

Are you implying that they copy Ross's ideas? If so you are WAY off.

I think he was saying that that is similar to what Ross' workouts are like. IHP seems to be an extremely legit place, they obviously designed this workout specifically for Jeff and his fight against the gay Sylvia. I'm going to search for a place like that in my state, I'd love to train in a place like that.

No of course not. As bamai said, I just wanted to draw attention to the similarity. Sled dragging, car pushing, etc. Ross promotes the hell out of that type of thing. GPP is the new Roadwork.

FYI, I posted this up on Ross's forum for some of their responses, http://www.rosstraining.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=8974&sid=caeeb9fca9b81230bbccfab93d0b6805 for the link.

Again, I don't purport they copied ross's ideas.

I think it's funny how when this was posted in the HW: Pride and UFC forum, 90% of people talked about how Jeff Monson's workout was pointless and it looked like he was getting ready for a strongman competition and that's why he lost and then it's posted here and everybody that knows about conditioning loves it.

I checked out the link to Ross's forum and the thread posted with Monson's workout and I definetely disagree with Ross's responses to the video. I think bringing the bobbing and weaving in before the training to simulate the takedown is great, but Ross was acting like he was wasting his time by bobbing and weaving under the pipe was a waste of time, and to me it seems like it's making the cardio even better simulated to the fight. Also, I think Ross neglected to realize that Monson was training with his Strength and Conditioning coach, not his fight trainers or anything like that. I'd bet big money that he was doing just as much sparring as he was S&C training, they only filmed him training at this one facility, though.

I just read Ross' response, it seems very uneducated to me. Jeff Monson is obviously sparring alot at his MMA gym, so this workout was to get him in better shape and ready to compete, not to help his technique or anything like that.

I think it's just a little professional jealousy, nothing out of the ordinary.

...and Monson continues to horribly gas in his fights.

Yup, and I can't see that ever changing. That's a massive amount of muscle that needs oxygen, and unless he has a heart the size of a small turkey, I don't think any amount of conditioning is going to give him the cardiac output he needs. But woe to the fighter that he gets a hold of in the 1st...

I used to train with Jeff, his intensity is insane, He will not stop until he feels he's done. Jeff and Dennis Hallman are opening a new gym in yelm washington so it will be interesting what they have at the new gym.

When I watched this I really did think he was setting himself up for a fall.

Ducking under a static pole? How does that simulate the reflexes needed to react to the punch in the first place? In addition he is barely avoiding said static pole. That part was laughable. His head movement training should surely have been completely seperate from his strength training?

The workout looked great for a strength workout but I hope he had proper conditioning workouts too because there was nothing high paced in there, it did nothing to simulate the intensity of a fight at all.

Ross is 100% dead on IMO.

Gents, get real for 3 seconds please.

You think Monson needs to be running around flipping tires and shit?

No, the guy is already strong enough. He ought to be spending all of his energy in the ring sparring.

Why should he spend so much energy doing weight work when he's already stronger than hell?

Stupid, stupid, stupid...

Why do you guys think he gasses so horribly in his fights?

Think about it for a minute and realize that his goals OUGHT to be different than most of ya'll's goals...

You guys want to get strong and shit while this guy is having to get in the ring and create work for a long time, at the anaerobic threshhold...LMAO at flipping tires...LMAO...

He would have been much better off sparring with tall opponents for 6 minutes a piece.

One guy comes in, they spar 6 minutes with a 30 second rest prior to the next round....

Next guy comes in fresh, they spar 6 minutes with a 30 second rest prior to next round...

etc...For a total of 6 rounds...

What kind of stupidity does one have to exhibit to assemble a boxing glove on the end of a long pole, and then use it prior to a UFC HW Championship fight?

And one last thing:

Why in the FUCK would Ross bash the workout?

Jealousy?

GTFO of here...

What, he's mad that they didn't come to him?

Please, I'm sure he's much more professional than that...

Yep...

And to honest, he's not even that explosive...
