He seemed a bit of a dick in one of his first matches at ADCC this year. But he's super talented, no doubt about that.

I was speaking more about how I find his sense of humour funny. What did he do in that match?

Honestly nothing he hasn't done before. It was in his 1st match. he was just turning his back to his opponent and walking backwards.

Nothing new. He's done it in a lot of matches, and I took it as him just having fun. The announcers made it seem like it was really offensive because "it was a serious tournament with money on the line" but whatever.

I appreciate that he has a sense of showmanship and plays to the crowd. You don't see that much in straight grappling matches.

I might have to get this. Loved the half guard vid, and frankly watching a vid made with a sense of humor is easier than some guy with no charisma showing moves (even if he has great skills).

Marc Laimon's variation, where you sort of drop to your side to finish as opposed to staying on top and sprawling. Similar to the picture of the second position in the first post.

I hope he shows the finer points of how to finish it too, and not just a tons of different setups. I find that the finish is generally the problem I have with the darce/brabo.

This is my concern as well. I don't need 80 different setups for a submission, I'd much rather have two or three setups and a killer finish.

OMGGGGGG, been waiting for this FOREVER!!! best christmas present ever :D

Absolutely. But it seems a bit weird, doesn't it? For many subs the setup is crucial, but I can reach for a Darce in many different situations. My triangles on the other hand are not so easily set up, but if I nail the setup, I'm getting a tap.

The marce is way tighter than a standard darce. My preferred finish.

And the only darce I have trouble finishing is the short arm. Marce you catch a leg and squeeze, darce you turn slightly on your hip, pinch your elbows and row in.

I really like the marce. I find it works better for me than the darce, although on heavier opponents the zarce is a little higher percentage for me. Of course if they counter by pulling their elbow out, the larce is right there, too.

If we call them all the same, how are we to differentiate the differences in technique?

What is a "marce?"

the marce is the finish you most often see Glover use. It's just basically where you finish the choke on your side by dropping your opponent to their hip and clocking in the finish. It's basically the finish in the 2nd preview photo.

I'm pretty sure I heard the name came from when Jeff was at Cobra Kai and Marc Laimon came up with that finish, so they called it the marce.

I'm sure he will. I'm sure he'll cover the sprawl, the sit-through, the marce, the mounted darce, and the sleeve finish, if not more. If you mean tiny details to each finish, I guess we'll see.

Is the short arm the one where you just keep your gable grip and don't go hand to bicep? I also think the marce/slide is tighter than all the finishes except for the mounted one, but I hate that if I lose it I end up on the bottom unless I have the foresight to try and roll them over me and come up on top. In the moment it can be hard to gauge if you squeeze 2 more seconds or bail to the next position.

Marce started out as mad darce and got shortened.

And yeah, possibly ending up on bottom is the downside but usually they'll go to their side to relieve pressure so if you lose the choke its a scramble.

Short arm is when instead of grabbing your bicep you can only get your forearm. Its the darce for choking guys with thick shoulders.
