Jeff Bezo's business is exploding like crazy as well as his personal value now on track to surpassing 160 Billion dollars. He will based on the massive growth of his net worth he will surpass 200 billion dollars in less then a year. This based on others who decided to devote billions to helping others as much as Bill Gate's takes crap he does plow billions into charities such as cancer research, education, job programs and water purification a world wide problem. Jeff rather plow his money into his personal programs such as rocket science and robotics both benefiting him over the long term. Jeff's mindset is not that different to many extremely rich individuals.

TS you do know that some of the biggest advances in all realms such as medicine, etc, we all enjoy came from science like Bezo's is pursuing such as NASA's push into space, right?

Just asking.

We have to make the things he sells.. Or all of our money will disappear out of the economy and go to a few lucky people. Was Jeff smart for selling books online, and then allowing the infrastructure that created to expand? Yeah. Was it some major contribution to the world and genius invention? No. We can't let the money flow to the top without making any stops to keep the people that actually buy things, healthy. It even hurts most other rich people.

Do you think he is spending his money developing the core technology that will benefit others? He commonly spends millions on suing others for technology he believes violates patents he holds. You think he is doing this for the benefit of mankind?

His business benefits society as a whole, evidenced by the fact that people are voluntarily using his product. Why would they use Amazon if it didn’t benefit them? What he does with the money that he earns is his business.

Lol so if someone steals from you, you wouldn’t want to make sure that the person who stole from you doesn’t do it again?

Many of these things they sell we don't make but he will happily steal others ideas and get them put out of business. Amazon is famous for sticking it to their business partners as they see growth in this markets even markets as small as paintball up to much bigger growing partners such as Sprouts. They grow their business while putting businesses out of business because they feel they can make more money putting partners out of business or hurt them.

"
Natural food grocer Sprouts Farmers Market told analysts Thursday morning that it ended its delivery partnership with Amazon Prime as of May 1, and its transition to Instacart will have a slight drag on its sales.
Sprouts had an 18-month partnership with Amazon for 15 of its stores, which it used as distribution hubs for broader food delivery. Amazon last year acquired Sprouts' rival, Whole Foods, and is making its own aggressive push into the grocery industry."

For some reason I don’t get mad when someone has billions upon billions of dollars.

He didn’t steal it

Maybe millions of people watch child porn. Don't pretend what people do is the bar for what's good for society.

Although I don't use Amazon, how much money he makes and what he does with his money is his own business.

You commies I tell ya

you ask a lot of questions that have no meaning.

Whether or not his goal is "benefit all of mankind" has nothing to do with whether such pursuits of technology DO benefit all of mankind. And yes he spends a lot of money pushing the envelope to develop new technologies and trying to be leading edge.

Yet Amazon actually received a tax rebate from the UK govt

Gotta hand it to him, his hustle game must be amazing.

When this guy dies, his legacy will be to have been at the center of a fundamental shift in the consumer landscape, one which consumers have jumped on board with wholeheartedly because they really like the service he is offering. Just to be clear, he is rich because so many people loved what he was doing that they decided, of their own free will, to use his product extensively. While I think we should be sensitive to making sure he doesn't become a veritable Scrooge McDuck and things don't only flow up, I have a bit of trouble getting outraged over how rich he is when I choose to make him more rich, willingly, with some frequency, and I get something out of it that I place significant value on. I suspect the same will be true for a lot of people who will be outraged in this thread.

Beside that, this is all beside money he does put into developing technology and infrastructure. Again, when he dies, he will have changed the world, and arguably for the better if we judge "the better" by a standard of "providing more things that more people want."

Amazon will rule the world one day

They either have their hands in or are working on getting their hands in every aspect of your life

Walmart on steroids

Why do poor people care about what rich people spend their money on?

amazon clearly has a monopoly on the distribution of books/ebooks

Remember when trustbusting was a thing? I remember

Why do poor people care about what rich people spend their money on?

This is a bit like asking "Why do people care how strong people use their strength?" except on a societal scale. We care because some people use their strength to protect the weak from bullying and to help those in need, and some use their strength to bully and tyrannize others. A rich person with a certain platform can use their money to the detriment of all in quite illicit ways and we should obviously be concerned about such self serving "bullies."

Firstly I am fine with people becoming very wealthy I am good with that in fact I personally knew people who have become billionaires in technology. Heck one of their daughters even own a golf course 1,000 feet from my house they bought from an Arab investment group. This is not about denying someone their billions it's about the fact that a sizable percentage of people are going to be stuck working for them or with them and ask how that worked out for many of these companies when dealing with Walmart? His personal fortune now tops the combined wealth of the Walton family and that's saying something. They cut deals that hurt the businesses overtime or they hire workers at reduced wages while they are forced to go on food stamps and various welfare stop gaps.
