MMA Fighting's (and Irishman) Petesy Carroll discusses Mendez's claim, why McGregor isn't the biggest threat, if McGregor will return and be back to his best. 28m 15s if it doesn't play there.
Mendez list was McGregor, Ferguson, Poirier, Holloway in the order descending. What's yours?Poirier and Ferguson are bigger threats than McTapper.

Interesting, so you do believe McGregor's still got the best shot?1. McGregor
2. Poirier/Cerrone/Gaethje
3. injuries
I think standup fight is where chances against Khabib are lying. If you react like a wrestler, Khabib most likely has your number.Interesting, so you do believe McGregor's still got the best shot?
I think that's a fair take.I think standup fight is where chances against Khabib are lying. If you react like a wrestler, Khabib most likely has your number.
I also think Conor is the most proficient standup guy that will ever face Khabib; it takes a fine appreciation of distance and timing to do things Conor has done to people.
Khabib has beaten Conor strategically.
Khabib is the guy that leans back off the strikes and extends his lead hand / jabs. Against a guy like that you either feint to draw reaction and when he comes back with his head you counter on the beat...or double up on your attacks (Poirier's chances, watch Poirier vs. Green KO).
AKA has studied Conor extensively. Conor is probably the best ever at making you misjudge distance. Javier Mendez knows what he's talking about. He knows where the danger is.
They came prepared for Conor's reach and cross frame. Conor most of his reads gets off of his lead hand (basic fighting principle in southpaw vs. conventional is the lead hand control and getting the outside angle). That's why Khabib never jabbed and fall short, he didn't habitually react to Conor's early pressure. Later on, he was the leader with his wrestling. He made Conor question himself by literally not reacting, moving away the power hand, cutting off Conor's stutter step to the outside angle and getting himself prepared for a low single on the exits.
Conor has to come up with the feints and counters off of its feints. It wasn't the sharpest Conor first time around and JM fully understands what it means when you have to be perfect.
My apologies.Came for a hot MMA take from Pete Carroll, leaving disappointed.
My apologies.
Petesy also mentioned that Javier said on his show that it wouldn't be competitive going in haha! Maybe he truely believes none of the fights would be competitive, but McGregor is the best of the bunch. You need to stop taking what Mendez is saying seriously, he's said in the past that he wants Khabib to fight Conor in a rematch way before anything else, because it would bring Mendez more money.
