Javier Mendez: "Al Iaquinta was the most dangerous fight offered, other than Max."

Who is a tougher fight for Khabib?

Javier Mendez stated on the MMA Hour that of all the opponents that were being considered to fight Khabib, Al Iaquinta was the most dangerous....other than Max.

Agree or disagree?

I disagree with Javier. I think Al was a more dangerous match for Khabib than Max would have. Al has more size and strength to deal with Khabib's wrestling, better wrestling background, and more KO power. Not sure why Javier feels that Max would have been the tougher fight. Enlighten me, sherbros.

Feel free to toss a vote towards Pettis or Felder, if you're so inclined. But please, defend your choice.

Max is the more dangerous...but those four on the list will still get mauled....

Al.

-Pettis is a shell of himself
-Max was injured and a featherweight
-Felder is a tough fighter, but I felt Al was overall more a more complete fighter

Pettis is most experienced and the only one of them with good BJJ. Shouldve been Pettis
EDIT: Ortega has the best BJJ in the game but I still think it shouldve been Pettis vs Khabib

Max has better footwork. He’s never in one place. He hits angles and moves laterally. All of this because Max is adept at switching stances. He can even do it mid combination which is extremely difficult and rare to find. A quality that Dom, TJ, MM, Tony and a few others can do. But not many people have it.

Khabib would’ve been shooting from even further away against Max and he would’ve diving for ankles worse than he did against Al in those later rounds.

Max is also probably one of the fastest fighters in the game. Look at his hand speed when he finished Aldo. His distance control is very sharp, even Aldo said he couldn’t find his chin because of his length, height, and distance control.

If Khabib had used that same defense of dipping his head back and chin up, Max would’ve landed a nice 1-2 or has gone to the body repeatedly with punches and body kicks.

You think Khabib would’ve been able just land jabs repeatedly against Max like he did against Al? Think again, those would’ve been countered. Max could have even switched to southpaw and parry those jabs and land body kicks. It also would’ve forced Khabib to shoot for singles rather than double legs (the lead leg switch), and we all saw that Khabib isn’t a great wrestler in open space, he’s much better — unstoppable — in the clinch/bodylocks.

Max is also a cardio machine he gets better as the fight goes on. Khabib dodged a bullet here and the N.Y. commission saved him from Max, IMO.

But what the fuck do I know? I’m not a fan of anyone, I’m just calling things how I see it.

Max with a full camp is far more dangerous. But the way he came in it is kind of close with iaquinta. I'd still say Max is a more dangerous fight.

Al is definitely more dangerous than pettis or felder.

Nice assessment, thanks. Do you think Max in his current state, coming off the ankle injury and a tough weight cut is still more dangerous than anyone on the list?

given that Max was hurt T-City was the most dangerous. but from the poll i think Al was the most dangerous. had Max been healthy though i think he could beat Khabib. would pay to see that fight for sure

I'd still say Pettis, even though he's not close to as good as he use to be he would still be more likely to stop Khabib than the others (though obviously a huge underdog). None of the fighters available had any real chance of winning a decision.

Edit: Holloway was not in shape and having such a tough cut that the commission wouldn't even let him continue that's why I would put Pettis above him in that circumstance.

bear in mind that Khabib and Iaquinta easily looked a weight class apart. khabib is a huge LW.

That remains to be seen. Nobody except Max could answer that question.

I honestly think Ortega. "Styles make fights" didn't become a cliché catchphrase for no reason.
