Javier: I don't think Khabib lost a round of sparring, but I never put him in there with big people

He was one of the least active ranked lightweights of his generation.

Its a lot easier to maintain your standing when you never fight. The dude had entire years off, missed the biggest challenge of his career because he couldn't make weight, and then - I shit you not - took a year off between each of his last two fights as champion.

Add up Khabib's total UFC fights and divide it by the years he was signed. He had a relatively light strength of schedule and was super inactive.

Do Bronx going on a 11 fight win streak and wrecked everybody is more impressive. If he beats Islam, he will be the undisputed GOAT lightweight title run.
Very well put

Eye test wise, Khabib is probably top 3 all time for me, but it's very annoying he doesn't get more criticism for all the reasons you listed, and he never really proved how good he was so it'll always be a question

And Islam has coincidentally done the exact same shit... it's almost like it's a strategy

Khabib sparred with 185ers.

Josh Thomson has always been one of my favorite fighters, but he’s a hyperbolic shill on so many levels especially when it comes to Khabib. He would beat Colby in a striking match and beat Usman? that’s about as speculative and biased of an opinion anyone can have. Even Swick looks “hmm” listening to him.

Usman would jab the head off that arm punching fool. Usman can land major power punches out of Khabib’s leg clinging range and he’s not going to be easy to get down.

I’m not sure I would have Khabib winning a kickboxing match against Colby either. Colby is a much better volume striker and he’s faster.

As someone else said, his activity has been terrible. In the last 7 years he’s had so many single fight years. Basically his entire ranked fighting career is minimal activity.

Khabib’s ranked fighting career

2014 1 fight

2015 0 fights

2016 2 fights

2017 1 fight

2018 2 fights

**Creates interim 13 months inactive

2019 1 fight

**Creates interim 13 months off

2020 1 fight

7 years 8 fights is crazy weak activity, IMO a deep division like LW needs high turnover title fights and Charles has been active enough so far. I wish Khabib was far more active in the years that meant the most.

Well I guess when you lack the big names on your resume to justify being Goat, your coach and fans would have to resort to other "measures" to make you look great

This is a hilariously insane post.

You know pointing out that Charles foguht more often than Khabib, but has less Top 10 wins, makes him look worse, not better, right?

I also like how a 2 year layoff due to injuries that almost led to his retirement--meaning he was truly inactive and barely training more most of that time--is being spun as an advantage Charles didn't enjoy.

Sure, bro, every expert knows barely training or fighting for two years (while you're in and out of hospitals and surgeries) totally benefits an MMA fighter competing at the highest level of the sport.

I’ve rooted against Khabib in every fight I’ve ever watched him compete in and yet even I can recognize how silly some of the hate on him is.

At the moment he’s the LW GOAT and it’s not that close. Maybe if he was a D1 wrestler from Minnesota people on here would view him differently. I don’t know. It’s weird that a forum full of fight fans can’t watch his fights and recognize how dominant he was and that circumstance was a major reason he didn’t fight x 3 a year. It doesn’t even matter. He dispatched the top guys in the division with such ease that it often felt like I was watching WWE.

Completely overrated

left entering his prime , wanting to protect a fake undefeated streak in hopes his mindless idiotic fan base thinks he was the goat. Pathetic.
Top 5 sure. Wrestling > All in mma. We know that. Never had any real competition until 2 fights before he retires.

Never once did I see Khabib fight someone in the UFC and think "man, Khabib is so much bigger!!"

Not even once. If anything, it was sometimes the other way around. Hes literally the same exact frame and size as Porier, Gaethe, Iaquinta, Barboza, etc

A mere 2 pounds separated them on fight night (cage weight).

Why has Islam followed a very similar pattern though?

Super inactive, has one year to push for a title shot which was this past year for Islam, then back to one fight a year.

It's not even THAT big of a criticism, but it's amazing how many people don't understand there was strategy from Khabib's camp in their matchmaking, it wasn't just injuries and everyone ducking them lol.

Javier is the king of gym lies

As far as I know, Conor never missed weight or used the towel to make weight. You can talk about appearance all you want, but it's a brain dead comparison

Conor had trouble cutting to 155 even before his leg break, even said so himself.. why do you think he wants to fight LW's without the weightcut?
Dont think for a second that he does it easy the gaunt, concentration camp pictures of Conor are of a man thats doing that cut hard.
Its a real comparison get off your knees and get back to reality.

Islam fought 4 times in 12 months from 2021 - 2022. Khabib never came close to that.

I don't think we know the specifics of Islam's condition, but he had to have heart surgery around 2015. We have no idea how that affected him in the surrounding years.

Yeah, bro, I'm sure Khabib's near retirement in the 2014 - 2016 period from multiple surgeries--including back surgery--was just a wily strategy by Abdulmanap.

Your argument is cute.

Who cares how hard it is, it's the result that matters. The fact that Conor said he had trouble making weight has much less impact than Khabib actually having trouble making weight. Conor moved up when the weight cut became too much, something Khabib never did.

I never thought I would be defending Conor here haha, but your meathead answer was too tempting to reply to

Very cool insight.

Stuff like this I enjoy hearing about.

Khabs was amongst my fav guys to watch.

This thread is full a so much twisting though.

Ah well..

How was his undefeated streak fake? Did he has losses that weren’t recorded?

Do you understand what “undefeated” means though? You realize that your judgement of his opponents does not invalidate the fact that he’s undefeated, right?
No please explain. I must be slow….

Imo he lost to Tibau

regardless, he’s overrated.
