Ewww, I so hate the appeal to futility in crop death arguments even me being a non vegan.
Cattle: 40 million death per year in meat production
Pigs: 120 million per year in meat production
Broiler chickens: 9 billion per year in meat production

This alone puts animal agriculture above plant agriculture in the death count, and
where this argument falls apart
is that it is used to suggest that if you can’t be totally vegan there’s no point in trying
at all, or more to the point because animals, insects etc die in crop production it is
therefore viable for us to breed, raise and kill animals intentionally.

Not to mention a sentience hierarchy: The moral value of a cow is not necessarily equivalent to the moral value of a rodent but I'm not going into normative ethics and deontological points with you.

People who are so over the top about protecting dogs and cats are just hypocritical narcissists. These same people often value dog life / treatment over that of actual humans. The only reason they're so compassionate about dogs is because they own dogs that are 100% subservient and affectionate to them. It's all about their ego.
