News Jalin Turner misses weight for fight vs Dan Hooker

What would you think of a 1 point or 1/2 point deduction for missing weight?

I think it is fair. Currently the fighters gets an advantage in the competition that is not addressed by the financial penalty. Cases like this it seems like the fighters are accepting the fine and not trying to make weight just paying for an advantage, which is bullshit and not in line with what the ethics of combat sports should be.

Do you think it would result in too many cancelations?

That's pretty significant and he was the last to weigh in so he probably put everything he's got in that cut.
He should probably consider moving up, the guy is tall and huge for the division.

Although I think this is first miss so we'll see what happens, but yeah lightweight definitely doesn't seem a long term thing for Turner.

I like it. On top of the opponent automatically getting your win bonus

I am 100% for a FULL POINT deduction for weight misses

I wouldn’t be mad at TWO POINTS… Weight missers would basically have to finish to win

Yeah, i think they would game the system and pull out for "medical undisclosed reasons" more often.

That is where things get tricky.

I would personally trade the fine for the point or half point. I just think the "punishment fits the crime" better as this would at least attempt to offset the competitive advantage, which the fine does not do.

one point per-round... no eeking out a point win... specular finish or lose....

I've been wanting to see that addition to the fine for a while now. Makes all the sense in the world for the reasons you mentioned.

How the F that dude made 55 is beyond me to begin with. Like a telephone pole at LW.

2 points would result in too many cancelations in my opinion.

1 point would mean that if the overweight fighter wins 29-28, then it would be a draw. I personally find that to be fair but I know how much Vegas hates draws.

.5 point is arguably too small to matter as it would only matter in the case of a draw (unless I am missing something) which are pretty rare. But I guess a draw changing to a win for the guy who made weight does sound fair.
