Legion of Skanks had Mickey Gall on a couple weeks ago, Shields unexpectedly tagged along, and they put him on too. One of the best grapplers in MMA. A great mix of American wrestling and BJJ. Most of the best BJJ guys didn’t have Jake’s ability to force a fight to the mat and a lot of wrestlers didn’t have Jake’s ability to continuously advance position, and earlier in his career get the subs.

He also outgrappled Demian Maia in a 5 round match fought mostly on the ground.

And yes, his twitter feed is a touch indelicate

I don’t remember too much of Shields-Akiyama, but I don’t remember Akiyama really getting the better of any ground exchanges. I remember he made Jake look ridiculous a couple of times by dumping him on his ass with leg sweeps and judo moves but Akiyama is a fairly decorated judoka. And Jake won that fight though I can’t really remember how it went. I do remember the sweeps.

Lombard’s judo was also a problem for Jake.
