No it isn't. He worked to adapt his folk wrestling to MMA and became world class. You can certainly argue that he should have trained his stand-up, but hit focus was adapting what he was good at to be better than anyone else. His cardio was not his issue until maybe the Maia fight, at which point his hip needed serious surgery.
