Mexico's Jaime Munguia (28-0, 24 KOs), 21, is in as the opponent for junior middleweight world titleholder Sadam Ali (26-1, 14 KOs), 29, of Brooklyn, New York, on May 12, at the Turning Stone Resort Casino in Verona, New York, a source with knowledge of the deal told ESPN on Saturday night. The fight will be announced on HBO's broadcast tonight. He replaces Liam Smith, who withdrew on Friday because of a skin condition that has left him unable to train. Munguia was recently offered a short-notice fight with unified middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin as Canelo Alvarez’s replacement on May 5 but because of Munguia’s lack of experience against top opponents and because he was not a middleweight, the Nevada State Athletic Commission said it would not approve the bout.
