Media Izzy doesn't chase the belt anymore: "if it comes, I will take it with both hands though"

Money fights... avoid being talent enhancement

Kind of makes that finish look at least a little bit like a fluke in hindsight.
nah izzy hurt alex with the same shot in all of their fights, he just landed it more clean in the rematch. Those 2 are very evenly matched, pereira got finishes after losing on the scorecards in the 2nd kickboxing fight and the 1st mma fight, izzy did the same thing in the 2nd mma fight where he was losing and had to comeback to win.

Perfect shot, capitalizing on Pereiras tendency to forget about defense when he is going in for the kill.

Good to see that Pereira learned from his mistakes and is now much more measured and defensively sound even while having his opponent hurt.

I think the Poatan fights took a lot out of Izzy, he ate some bombs without getting dropped. Then gets dropped by Strickland and Imavov in the following fights.

He is almost 40, had a looooong career and according to that lawsuit with his ex, worth over 15 million, impossible to get as hungry as he was in his prime, no matter how hard he tries.

Not exactly, he’s fought the guy several times and has come close but couldn’t seal the deal. He finally did after multiple times, the laws of probability favors him winning at least once.

still so crazy how he had that all time great finish against alex then lost 3 in a row and is on the verge of retirement now, things went south quick and randomly

Its the opposite of random. Izzy is 35 and you can plot MMA careers on a chart and see decline. There are outliers like Poatan who still appears to be performing well athletically at his age, but he too will fall off a cliff. He has a lot less MMA miles on him.

Stick around and watch all your favorite fighters lose when they age out.

Well he's 35 and I don't think age is kind to his style. He made the most of what was left of his athletic prime after coming to the UFC. Pereira is doing the same and was wise to move up to LHW. We might be having this same conversation about Alex if he loses to Ankalaev and then loses again. Although I'm hoping he wins tonight.

Izzy almost finished Alex in their second kickboxing fight and their first MMA bout. Their fight has never been one sided so no, it wasn't a fluke.

? He is 35. Two years younger than Pereira. Thats the tail end of a fighters prime.
