I've been getting into Sumo recently

I have been wanting to watch is live but the west coast doesn't have too many live sumo events.

The georgian is crazy built, almost 180kg looking less fat than most sumo fighters

I used him and Riner (and Karelin of course) as example of people that break the "beyond 265lbs only crap" speaking of MMA HW limit

I also was impressed by the slim czech dude who was barely above (sometimes even below) the 100kg but skilled af

And it's all because of this beautiful man

This guy is Tochoinoshin Tsuyoshi from Georgia but he wrecks Japan Sumo like he is Japanese.

Check this video out. I think this video will convince some people that Sumo is a legit fighting sport and can be extremely brutal

Another video of Tochoinoshin WRECKING fools. At one point Tochonioshin is 10-0 before his first loss in this tournament. He was even able to defeat Yokozuna Sumo fighters

If these videos got you interested in learning more about Sumo here is another video that is a short cliff notes version of the basics

I enjoyed sumo and was really into it when I lived in Japan. I totally lost interest when the corruption and extensive match fixing was exposed.

Also, he was 9-4 in that tournament before winning his 10th match to regain Ozeki. He didn’t win 10 straight.

NHK World, sometimes also on PBS, last night showed Day 1 live, I think, and said they'd be back at the midpoint of the tourney.

I meant watching it in person but thanks for this suggestion

Watch live in front row and be squashed by falling large sumo wrestler? Every now and then you see a mean spirited guy give an extra shove long after the opponent was already out of bounds.

It's legit. I wouldn't want to fight this guy. Would you want to fight this guy?

I lived in Japan in 1990 and I went two times to honbasho where I saw Chiyonofuji compete. It was awesome!

isnt sumo losing popularity in japan. i heard all sports have lost popularity on tv in japan mma sumo etc

Sumo is my favorite grappling art to watch. And it's more meritocratic than Boxing and MMA.

Depressing. Once you get a hold of Enho's belt, it's all downhill for him since everyone's bigger than him.
