Conor got classically Diaz'd...plan and simple. He displayed terrible fight IQ and gameplan for this fight whichis forgivable considering it was short noticed. But still every fighter should know at this point...you don't go in there looking to "stand and bang" with the Diaz bros. More times than not you end up drowning under their swarm of long, pitter pat punches.
This is how the Diaz style works. The fight starts and they begin pressuring you like so:
Because they keep pressuring you if forces you to either use footwork and get out of the way like Condit is doing....or it forces you to attack like Conor and so many others have:
But here's where the trap comes in. Initially you start of doing well because the Diaz bros are so easy to hit. And the more you swing the more you land. They cut easy, they get rocked, they get floored...it tempts you to keep going.
So after a round of you loading up and swinging on these guys you start to get tired, need a breather. It's at this point they got you. That's when they start to pour it on and pitter pat you into a living death:
It's at this point you can decide to either stand there and suffer death by a thousand pitter pats...or panic wrestle and get submitted:
The blueprint for beating a Diaz brother is fairly simple if you are a skilled enough fighter. But if you are not skilled enough or if you fight their fight they will eat you alive. That's what happened to Conor. Instead of using footwork, conserving his energy, fighting smart...he was out there going for broke and doing spinning shit. Next thing he knew he was panic wrestling.
