It's kind of ironic how the cost of an USADA test is higher than the salary of most fighters

It is $40k in the same sense that if you walk into a hospital without insurance and get a band aid it's listed as $45

Sonnen told so many bombastic lies in that spin with Rogan, it was hysterical.

Not Really

I'm really curious as to why the UFC would do this, you'd figure it is purely for PR purposes but the way the public is, more positive tests will only make their perception of the sport worse. It's a better PR move to not test at all than to do strict testing because out of sight out of mind for most.

Of course the commission must be involved in MMA but the least amount of testing the better in terms of PR. There has to be some behind the scenes motivation. Otherwise it's paying out huge money to drag your sport's reputation through the mud and ruin events and the careers of your star athletes

It cost almost the same to pay dillashaw for his UFC 200 performance as it cost to test Jones and subsequently ruin the show for fucking estrogen blockers. Think about that

According to Chael a single USADA test costs $40,000
He's parroting Lorenzo's bullshit.
In its marketing materials and contracts presented to colleges, Drug Free Sport promises that samples will be tested at a WADA-certified lab. Two such labs exist in the United States, one at U.C.L.A. and one at the University of Utah, which has been spun off into its own nonprofit separate from the university.

The most comprehensive menu of drugs that Drug Free Sport tests for, according to a review of contracts between the company and some of its university clients, is called the Comprehensive Anabolic Steroid Panel Plus or the N.C.A.A. Year-Round Testing Panel. At $150 per test, it includes testing for “every substance in the WADA-accredited laboratory of anabolic agents.” A less expensive option ($80) tests for about 20 substances.

Lets say it costs 10 times (it doesn't) to account for storage of the samples for 8 years, and paying the DCOs to collect the samples, it's still less that 1/10th what he was claiming.

Fighters making that little are expendable, the perception of integrity is priceless.

his entire life is just made up of different lies

sonnen-busted.gif

he essentially told the truth about jones all week. no one has pointed out where he was wrong

if it turns out that he really did test for PCT's

like what

Too many to remember, but I'll give my favorite.

He claimed he was the first ever athlete randomly drug tested by NSAC. I'm talking really leaned into this crazy lie, and doubled down saying it over and over. Aside from it just being ridiculous at face value for anyone remotely familiar with NSAC, the year prior Overeem was famously caught by a random test NSAC issued.

UFC 146 Heavyweights Undergo Random Drug Test after Press Conference in Vegas

Other hysterical side note - he mentioned over and over how it was so odd the collector tested him at the MGM, how unusual. Of course NSAC had already randomly tested 8 UFC fights - literally at the MGM - in one of the most publicized random tests in the sport.

Also of interest, he went on about how Wand may have ran from the collector because he didn't have ID. In the same discussion Sonnen complains how much official paperwork he had to sign for his collector.

How on earth would you be confused if a collector knows where to find you in Vegas, shows up with a stack of official documents for you to sign (for the state of Nevada) and a medical kit to get your samples? It is a bald face lie to say you didn't know who they were or why they were there.

Now Sonnen isn't stupid so he must know many people realize he's telling zaney lies, but he delivers them so straight people unfamiliar would just assume he's telling a normal story. Everyone else who recognizes he's telling crazy lies ends up talking about it - like we are right now - and he gets some press, good or bad.

>the truth
>0 evidence or anything at all to back it up
>infamous liar and attention whore

ya goof

That is impossible...I worked in mental health and we needed to have certain patients drug tested as part of contracts w various providers and without a doubt...without a shadow of a doubt, blood testing, even for 100 different metabolites would be less than 2000 bucks, and that would be from a lab that was charging you through the nose....

I can't see it costing that much. But it would to interesting to know the exact cost.

Are you seriously comparing a drug test to an olympic test? Detecting stuff like HGH does cost a small fortune

And as soon as something he said is demonstrably wrong, almost everyone is willing to accept that he was 'just trolling' or 'it was a joke and he and rogan were both in on it'.

I love that guy

So to get a rough idea of the cost of a test, we can look at USADA's annual reports.

http://www.usada.org/wp-content/uploads/2015_annual_report.pdf

3999 tests in 2015.
~17 Million in revenue.

Give you a max cost per test of $4250 (out of competition would be lower, in competition higher), including DCOs, sample storage, whereabouts programs, education etc. In reality, they're heavily subsidized by the US government and olympic committee, and they charge about $1000 per test (4.3 million revenue from testing)

Wait, super important question. Do the women fighters have female testers looking at the pee coming out of their vagina?

No I'm not high. It's what Chael said.
Yep.
http://www.usada.org/testing/sample-collection-process/urine/
When ready to provide a sample, the athlete will be asked to select a sealed sample collection vessel from a choice of vessels. The athlete should check and inspect the collection vessel to ensure that it has not been tampered with and will be instructed to rinse their hands with only water before opening the vessel. The athlete representative may be present in the toilet area during the provision of the sample with the athletes permission and when agreed upon by the DCO.

The athlete will be asked to provide a urine sample of at least 90ml under direct observation of a DCO or witnessing chaperone of the same gender. In order for the DCO or chaperone to have a clear view of the sample being provided, the athlete will be asked to pull their shirt up to mid torso and pants down to mid-thigh. As soon as the athlete is finished providing the sample, the DCO or chaperone will instruct the athlete to immediately secure the vessel with the lid.

Provision of the sample in the case of a minor will require a few additional protocols. Please click here to read thepolicy on minor athletes.

For the men, they hire that creepy guy who's always standing too close and staring down and to the left at the urinals.
