I don’t think Chael could take him down, especially with GSP controlling the range with his jab, and I don’t think GSP would ever look for his own takedown due to success on the feet

hey man.. I get what you are saying.. and now I am going to look like a Chael fan when I am an AS fan.. but... the jab would never work if Chael had the mentality he had in the CS vs AS 1 fight... Chael threw a few punchs and got in his face all night... the jab wasn't slowing him down... he is probably 30 pounds heavier on fight night... MW gsp was probably 190? MW Chael was 215-220. Chael was also the better wrestler.. just had bad submission defense... good thing GSP can't submit Dan Hardy... anyways..

GSP is the much better fighter... Chael probably would have beaten him... then again so would probably Tito in 2012.... size matters..

Well not sure how truthful and just complimentary Sonnen is when he says GSP got the better of him at Tristar. He was the visitor.

Because Sonnen at his best always shoots right away. And he had a really good shot and good top game. Bigger than GSP. Cardio for 5 rounds. So would sound like a tough fight for GSP. Without Chael's take on it.

You're oblivious to the fact that Chael regularly talked about GSP tooling him in training.

Chael often props up other fighters at his own expense, even if he could beat them (or has).

I do think GSP would win, but wouldn't take Chael statements as any kind of evidence.

I go with a long stale mate kind of fight. Cage work and allot of hesitations between the two. GSP would probably out point Chael.

I never liked AS vs GSP, just thought it was a bad match up for GSP. But, Chael vs GSP, thats a hard one to call. In an interview, I know Chael said, you never really know how hard someone is until you wrestle them. Then, he went on to say something like GSP was very heavy for his size. He remembers the weight he felt from GSP. He said this prior to him vs Bisping in support of how GSP wrestling will be a factor against Bisping. That even though Bisping is a middle weight that does not always translate during the fight. GSP will be heavier.

Against Chael though, thats a hard one to call. IDK who would win between the two, they both would engage in wrestling. Chael would get caught by GSP in the strikes but Chael would have a great chance at winning too. I see GSP being afraid at striking with hands too cause of the take down attempts by Chael at that time. I

Chael himself told at one of his podcasts that when he sparred with gsp he was very strong physically , I think gsp would had won a decision but it wouldn’t had been a fight based on wrestling.

Yeah he also said that he’d fought the GOATs Fedor, Jones and Silva and that GSP
Was the best. He said it was sparring but he basically fought GSP and it would appear he got smoked.

I think GSP is technically ahead as an MMA fighter but Chael is bigger so they would be even, the diffence is that GSP always had great fight IQ and Chael has multiple instances of bad fight IQ, he would eventually make a mistake that would cost him an otherwise even fight.

a previous poster added tool not you. I've listened to a few clips of Sonnen on GSP and cannot find one where he mentions GSP got the better of him.

not saying you're wrong just implying every podcast I've heard him mention GSP he talks about how strong he was and how he is the best guy he's trained/fought with. so if you know the exact podcast or can give me a legit source where he claims GSP got to better of him. I don't believe he said that lol.
